Neil Young

Of the 3 new Neil Official Bootleg recordings coming out which one seems the most essential/well recorded ?
Of the 3 the one I am most interested in is the 1974 show since I own Young Shakespeare, Carnegie Hall, The Cellar Door and Massey Hall already I think I am good on solo acoustic Neil from ‘70-‘71. The ‘74 show is right before the release of maybe my favorite NY album, On The Beach so he is previewing many of the tracks that would appear on that album.

Regarding the recording fidelity, I’ve read that it’s cleaned up but apparently Neil’s vocals are a bit pushed back in the mix and the recording picks up some some crowd noise sounds more like if you were sitting in the back of theater instead of right up front. The review said it add a bit of character to the recording that lends itself to the laid back casualness of the gig.

I think that’s the one I’ll end up picking out since I have all those others you mentioned and got On The Beach recently and have been obsessed with it.

Anybody receive any of these yet? Still waiting here
I have downloaded MP3s of all 3 releases but I don’t think they’ve been released on vinyl yet. The quality of the digital files sound pretty on point with what the reviewer stated. The two 71 shows are okay quality but not near as good as Carnegie Hall and the ‘74 show sounds like a legit bootleg. I am fine with it since the material is interesting and it’s no worse than other boots I’ve listened to over the years but it’s legit the worst recording quality out of any official NY release that I have heard.

Bootleg vinyls are due June 3rd.

The Official Box has been out a couple weeks now.

same here, I'm fine with streaming these once or twice.

Have not decided on the Official Release box yet

Thanks for these videos. It means for me that this bootleg series is a pass this go around. I've listened to the 74 show digitally and it definitely has hiss and isn't the best quality. It's a fine show that I'm content to occasionally stream, but for vinyl I'd like audiophile quality.

Middle of the road quality acoustic 71 shows I'm content to pass on given I have better quality vinyl from the same era.

I'm intrigued by the box set, but am indecisive as to whether I need these 4 albums. Particularly when the next box set is likely going to be Freedom/Ragged Glory/Weld (and maybe Arc), which will be a must own for me.

Lo and behold my ORS box finally arrived today. I think previous ones had some bubble wrap around the LPs inside the box, but no damage besides a split inner on one.
Yea mine almost all had seam splits but that always happens with box sets now it seems h less they put some kind of padding on the inside
