This seems...bad. (And it would seem to suggest that perhaps some of the rumors about more deaths in China than have been reported might have something to them.)
Hidden Mortality In Spain
ve been working on collecting different bits of information pointing to dramatically higher COVID-19 mortality than is showing up in official statistics. (Josh Kovensky is beginning to report the…talkingpointsmemo.com
Does the German measles cause undue negative feelings towards Germans? What about West Nile virus? Norovirus? Rocky Mountain spotted fever? MERS (middle eastern respiratory syndrome)? Lyme disease? Ebola? Zika? Spanish Flu? Lassa fever?I'm not a fan of calling it the "Chinese Virus" or "Wuhan Virus". I feel it causes unnecessary hate towards asian.
I mean if you wanna call it the Wuhan Virus go for it (it’s better than Chinese virus certainly) I think the point is that it is needlessly divisive. I would imagine had any of those previously labeled bugs had come into being and were being thrown around as a slight (which it what this is, everyone knows what Coronavirus or Covid-19 is at this point) people would not feel super great about that either.Does the German measles cause undue negative feelings towards Germans? All are named after the location in which they were first identified. That has been a common practice for a long, long time. Why is it now all of a sudden the practice is considered prejudicial? Is it because it is, or is it a reflection of the Chinese government’s undue influence in the WHO?

Exactly
Also, in this case, it's simply called the coronavirus or COVID-19 rather than the region it was first identified. Wahan Virus is not the official name the world recognizes.
This virus also is creating fear at the global level unlike any of those other virus / deceases mentioned do. Those other names haven't resulted in people spraying people of asian decent on the subway with febreze simply because they are asian and 'dirty' out of fear of catching this virus.
Scientists don't generally refer to most of those things by the names you used. Those are common names and it is not uncommon that they are incorrect about origin. They are frequently established long before the investigation on origin is completed. You might want to look up where Spanish Flu started again.Does the German measles cause undue negative feelings towards Germans? What about West Nile virus? Norovirus? Rocky Mountain spotted fever? The whole “virtue signaling” thing bothers me, I get that some on the left like to weaponize this type of stuff (as does the right; unfortunately people of all ideologies use shit like this to score cheap political points) but if some folks are offended by it (and as you stated who fucking cares we have much bigger fish to fry) why not just choose the inoffensive option.I use COVID-19 because it is the accepted and official name for it. On the other hand I don’t discount information or articles about it because somebody chooses a call if the Wuhan virus.
I am more concerned at the damage caused by unnecessary politicization and virtue signaling surrounding the name used to refer to it. Remember, it was only a month ago that politicians in New York, San Francisco and other places were encouraging people to come out to Chinatowns in major cities to attend lunar new year festivals. So I don’t care what people call it, I just wanna know what information you have about it.
You know, I think I’ve stated my position as clearly as I can. I don’t care what people call it, I just care about the quality of the information they provide.I’ll judge the information on its merits as best as I can and discard the nonessential stuff. The whole “virtue signaling” thing bothers me, I get that some on the left like weaponize stuff (as does the right; unfortunately people of all ideologies use shit like this to score cheap political points) but if some folks are offended by it (and as you stated who fucking cares we have much bigger fish to fry) why not just choose the inoffensive option.
Word. I love ya Chuck and apologize if it feels like we’re ganging up. Regarding the source The Federalist is almost completely troll enduring garbage at this point (I think they were recently suspended from Twitter and it might have been the piece referenced here that accomplished that feat). I used to follow them in my political feed (I follow lots of conservative and libertarian voices too. I like too somewhat well- rounded in that regard) but the bootlicking became too much for me to bear. They are also super secretive regarding who pays their bills to keep the publication going which is kinda shady too.You know, I think I’ve stated my position as clearly as I can. Because that's not what it's called. Why?

It is prejudicial when it is used in that manner, which seems to be very common at the moment with people blaming the "Chinese Virus" on some dude "eating a raw bat."
That will probably be important to end lockdowns ans to see how wide-spread covid-19 is in the Population. German is riding to rampingg up a cross-population study Screening 100.000s for antibodies.A quick finger-prick blood test can determine whether you've ever had the coronavirus. It could soon become widely available.
