Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

All of which takes time. Especially when most of our toilet paper is manufactured in China. It would take a few weeks to shift production lines and a few more weeks on ship to be imported to the United States.
We are definitely paying the price for President Clinton’s decision to sign NAFTA and GATT into law, which were handed to him by Republican legislators. Sending most of our manufacturing overseas has decimated the middle class here, and in a time of crisis, we’re dependent on manufacturing from foreign countries.

We need to bring manufacturing back home.

A mayor in Illinois directed the city's police department to issue citations and arrests after people defied the state's stay-at-home order. Less than 48 hours later, police broke up a gathering at a bar. Among those in attendance: the mayor's wife.

Haha

Turns out there really is a supply issue with toilet paper and it's not just people hoarding it causing the shortage.

Toilet paper production is split between for home use and commercial. Commercial use is a bigger portion of the pie.

With everyone suddenly at home more there is more demand for home use toilet paper. To the levels that there would be issues if people weren't hoarding it as well.

Production has to shift from creating more commercial toilet paper to more home use toilet paper.

There's a toilet paper factory right here in Gatineau. This is how you prepare for a pandemic, folks! And yes, we can get some in the stores right now (at least there was pallets of it last week when the wife went out). Nothing's on sale though.

So the WHO is the new scapegoat for that thing. Supposedly they should have called it earlier (the irony is not lost on anyone) and now the US is cutting off funding to them 🤦🏻

Decided to take a day off...tonight.

Things haven't gotten too out of hand in our hospital. Most Covid pts are in the ICU or a different designated unit. The ED hasn't been too busy....even with my county being considered the "worst" in Oregon - on a per capita rate basis...

Couldn't resist sharing from my family text thread:

edit: Is this too mean for a public forum?
If it's too mean, they won't get it anyhow.

Cheers! Hope you get a bit of rest and relaxation.
Vancouver is scary....you know....the "q" word.
It seems like nobody wants to be in the ER. Go figure. Especially the stuff that has no business there. Subtract the elective stuff and it's just plain odd.
Good luck down there!!

Oh...yeah. Don't want to use that Q word. Our ED is the same...usually there's 80-100 or so patients at a given time, but now at most there's 50 - and few are being admitted. The ED is down to the teens by midnight....it's weird.

It really shows that most people that come to the ED don't really need to.
