Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

can't stand Patrick. buffoon from the realm of talk radio.
guess I'll see how the state v local head-to-head is gonna play out soon enough.
The governor has convened an advisory group mostly made up of business representatives to work out the details. The group also includes five physicians to serve as medical advisors, led by John Hellerstedt, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

In San Antonio, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff have convened a nine-member task force of their own, made up entirely of doctors and public health professionals.

Nirenberg drew a distinction between what types of restrictions will be loosened, which “are going to be in the governor’s hands,” and “how we go about opening,” which he called a local matter.

Wolff said it’s “extremely important” that the task force makes its recommendations around the time of Abbott’s April 27 announcement.

My son's roommate has tested positive for Covid. He's a corrections officer in the Wayne County lockup, city of Detroit. His odds of dodging it probably weren't great...but damn this news is heavy today. My son and I are going to Facetime later so I can get more details. This is the 5th person I know that has it or had it...so far three have recovered and one is struggling to get to normal after a month, but she isn't dire. Hoping my son's roomie isn't too bad. He's only 24 but has high bp and is overweight.

Our governor is expected to extend the Michigan stay-at-home order beyond May 1st and I can say that people are NOT going to handle it well. I saw a Twitter poll from a local news station earlier this week that asked yes or no, is Whitmer handling this situation well. With 55,000 votes it was 91% no. I was floored it was that slanted to be honest.

Twitter poll results are garbage

I agree with that, but was just surprised with that many votes it was so one-sided. I just went back and looked - it's 83% No at this point with 73K votes. I voted yes for what it's worth.

Hoping the best for your son and his roomie.

Thanks. We were going to break quarantine and have dinner together tonight but once he told me today's news we decided against it.

That poll is likely completely skewed.

Here is a real randomized poll from yesterday, published by Fox News of all places, that says the opposite:

A similar story came out in PA today that Biden and Wolf (Governor) have a higher approval rating that Trump.

Never heard of ground-glass abnormalities. Can someone explain what that means?
I know it means lung indications that show up on a CT scan like ground (a type of frosted) glass. Not sure what it actually means biologically other than not being good though.

I didn't know either so I looked it up. As @dhodo said, it refers to structures visible on a CT scan.

Basically, it's lung damage.

And here's more on why the ventilators may not be working. This looks to me like an immune response gone wild. This is exactly what happened with the Spanish Flu. Now, the next question for me to ask is that if you are already exhibiting a mild immune over reaction, will this make it worse for you if you get COVID?

Doctors are seeing better results with steroid therapy than ventilators.

That is an insane article. Thank for sharing it! I have an autoimmune disease, and it's a little scary sometimes how many people are not taking this seriously. I mean, I understand that the survival rate is higher than the death rate, but that doesn't mean it justifies the risk of spreading it or catching it. People are still dying from it, and this IS a new illness that we are all still learning about.

Last night I texted my father about how protests are starting to take place here in MA to reopen the state. He said as they should, the flu is worse than COVID-19. Then he gave me a break down about how the flu is worse than COVID-19.

He basically made the argument that the flu is worse. With COVID-19 more than half the people show no symptoms and never get sick. It may be more contagious than the flu, but the flu is worse. More people get sick with the flu.

Then he went on about how the death rate for COVID-19 is .003, half that of the flu. All the higher death rates you see are from CNN where they inflate the actual death rate with deaths by other causes.

He says when the data comes out, and it will, that this whole pandemic was a hoax and the lockdowns were not necessary people are going to revolt.

A new high for positive for Ontario COVID-19 cases was announced on Thursday, and mortality rates are going up with it. The province has confirmed over 600 new cases across the region, taking the total the total to almost 13,000 and the death toll to over 700 people. 😔
