Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

Speaking of temperature checks,

I was just reading about someone's office that is now requiring everyone entering the building to have a temp check.

This guy left for a bike ride on his lunch break today to exercise. When he came back he registered a slight fever and was refused reentry.

He waited 10 minutes, tried again, and look at that. No fever.

My wife has run into this. It was cold out and she registered a 92 when she entered, was told to wait until she warmed up so they could re-test her.

Company today just announced we will be working from home until at least Sept. 14th, we were previously going to go back June 1st, work for a major healthcare company, so I wonder what info they have that the public isn't aware of
Probably not any specific secret info but just what all virologists out there seem to be communicating.: this will accompany us for the next 12-18 months , at least

I work for a healthcare insurer and I'm not sure that they have info the public doesn't. They have actuaries that did some data crunching. We are most definitely going to see a second wave. I had a conversation with my boss today about the seasonality of this virus. It does look like sunlight is deadly for this virus, but because it is so contagious, I think we will continue to see infections through the summer.

This is a good article: Will Covid-19 Go Away In the Summer and Return in the Fall?

“My best guess is that we will probably see a drop in new cases, but I don't think that we'll see a total diminishment,” says Robert Bednarczyk, an epidemiologist and assistant professor at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. “And in the fall, it probably will start coming back. I think at least for this upcoming year, we probably won't see that sharp seasonality that we normally do, until it's had some time to circulate to the population for a little bit longer.”

There is no evidence to suggest that once you've had it you are immune from forever catching it again. Scientists think that you are immune from catching SARS for approximately 1-2 years depending on initial viral load and other factors. If this is similar then without a vaccine we'll be looking to achieve herd immunity every year or so.
At what point do we get back to something resembling normal and resume living our lives? Do we expect people to not work for 12 to 18 months while waiting for a vaccine? At what point do we go back to living rather than just existing? How do you tell someone in their 80s to wait a year or two before hugging family members they don't live with? They may not have that much time.

These are all rhetorical questions for forumers, but we're seeing in real life that some folks are answering those questions today. You can certainly choose your own path, such as protecting yourself via PPE from exposure to these folks. Live and let live. Pun intended.

Today was day one of arguments in Wisconsin Supreme Court and whether or not the stay at home order can legally stand.

Republican legislators challenged the governors order in court saying he does not have the constitutional power to extend the order past May 1st.

Based on arguments today and what was seen in court today, it's looking very likely that the court will side with the republican legislator. The stay at home order in WI likely will fall and be appealed to the SCOTUS.

I think the difficulty with this situation is that everyone’s actions not only effect ourselves but everyone else. It’s like a car that gets into an accident. 3 passengers who were wearing seatbelts were fine. The 4th passenger who wasn’t died. That person who died disobeyed traffic laws and might have told you “if I get into an accident, that’s a risk that I take on myself.” But that person who isn’t wearing seatbelts can harm countless others by that action. This isn’t a my choice, my safety situation, this is a my choice, other people’s safety situation. Until something happens where the actions of one person cannot harm someone else we’re going to be in this holding pattern for a while. Life could return to normal quicker if more people adhere to PPE and social distancing guidelines. A cure or vaccine wouldn’t be found but things can open up again.

Here are some quotes from yesterday's case in Wisconsin on the grounds of if the states stay at home order the governor ordered is legal.

"Isn't it the very definition of tyranny for one person to order people to be imprisoned for going to work among other ordinarily lawful activities?" asked Justice Rebecca Bradley, who later questioned whether the administration could use the same power to order people into centers akin to the U.S. government's treatment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Patience Roggensack dismissed the idea that the outbreak was community-wide and could be replicated elsewhere.

"(The surge) was due to the meatpacking — that's where Brown County got the flare," Roggensack said. "It wasn't just the regular folks in Brown County."

The lawsuit isn't about whether or not the stay at home order is a good idea or not, but rather if it's legal. The GOP's general angle is that it's tyranny and that one person does not have the rights to close down daily life and prevent people from going to work.

The quotes from the conservative justices are very scary as well. Like what, we don't have a community spread of COVID, we just have a Meat Plant problem? WTF

This is not good news at all.

Now that the state of Arizona has begun opening back up their department of health services sent a letter to university experts that basically reads like they are saying "Congratulations guys... this crisis is over, thank you so much for working on this. We look forward to working with you again in the fall if when we start having flu cases".

Just heard a report on the local news about a non-profit who ordered PPE from China for people vulnerable / high risk had their order seized as it came through customs by the feds.

They grouped together with a few other non profits to make the minimum order requirement for a Chinese company to manufacturer and ship them the PPE.

FEMA seized their order as it came through customs for the national stock pile.

The non profit is both out of the PPE and their Money.

A Canadian citizen who is a doctor wants a green card to become a permanent citizen of the United States so she can make far more money being a doctor in the US than she can in Canada. For help she is turning to... Fredo.

what a pitiful take.
she might have family, a partner or million of other reasons for asking for a green card.
but hey no, just assume she's a greedy money grabber....

way to go.

CNN interviews extensively qualified doctor working to save American lives whose story appears to expose puzzling contradictions in Trump administration's supposedly merit-based immigration policies. From their perspective isn't profit motive supposed to be the incentive for the best and brightest to come here?
