Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

Saw a news report this morning that said there is a growing trend of violence over masks across our country. People are angry that they are being told to wear one and people are angry at people who are wearing masks.

Authorities are saying you should never confront someone over not wearing a mask for your own safety. If someone eggs you on about wearing a mask you should not engage with them.

They are also recommending that store employees/security not intervene if someone is refusing to wear a mask, and instead call the police.
I'm one of those people who is "at risk". I really hope that I don't get hassled because I want to keep myself healthy.

This is insanity. This is a virus. How did it become so damn political? And why is wearing a mask the thing that people are going nuts about?

Good fucking lord, America, GROW THE FUCK UP!
Basically this country was founded on "freedom". Colonists didn't want to follow taxes and religion and whatever England was implementing on them so they said "screw you" and left. That same mentality and selfishness continues on to basically any form of social or economical progressiveness. People don't want new laws or restrictions, they like having their "freedom". So when they're told to minorly inconvenience their life by wearing and mask to protect others they refuse. It's pure selfishness and disregard for their fellow americans. It's ingrained in our society. If they can't eat their Paunch Burgers and get haircuts all of a sudden it's Tyranny

At this point it's just an excuse for assholes to be assholes. It's not actually a political issue or about government control. It's just the excuse these shitheads have been waiting for. Anyone who gives a good goddamn about rights would hold private property rights in the highest of esteem.
In my experience, the people that seem to be the loudest moaning about their rights and censorship seem to have absolutely no understanding of the difference between private property/enterprise rights and public rights. They really seem to think that the constitution says you can do whatever the hell you want wherever you want to or using a corporation's platform, with rules against it. Idiots.

That is wild. Where is this? Is it one of the states that has a low level of infection?

That was in Castle Rock, Colorado. Interms of numbers, I found this:

Also, the restaurant should never have been open to dine-in. Douglas County, which Castle rock remains under a stay at home order that does not allow dine-in at reassurance. Only curb side pickup. They had enough of the order and opened in clear defiance of it.

When they were cited for their violation, they chose to reopen dine-in today in clear defiance.

Here is a local they quoted.

"I’m here to support this because I love the fact that we all have choices," Holly Burrell said. "That’s what being an American is about."

Burrell said she nor the other people inside the restaurant were scared for their health and she had "never been happier to not be six feet apart."

"I think we need to focus on the healthy people being out and the people that aren’t healthy to stay in," she said

This cafe in Castle Rock was only one of many restaurants across the country that opened dine-in for Mothers Day brunch defying local orders.

It’s mind blowing that the restaurant would defy the order and open up but also that so many people actually went there. It seems a few states are opening up without the recommended 14 day downward trend and I fear that it’s a recipe for disaster. I think the 3 highlighted in the news were Arizona, Texas and Mississippi.

Do any states have a 14 day downward trend? I know mine doesn't but they are opening lots of things back up.

Well there's your problem, because those recommendations also came from a federal government that is recommending injecting disinfectants, not shutting anything down, that governors should take non-essential trips to the WH for a little strokey strokey, that this is all sorta fake, that China did it, that it's Obama's fault, that it's only a problem for Democrats, that masks are good, that masks are bad, that states should define their own plans, that states should bend to the will of 'total authority,' that we should just shine UV lights inside the body, and so on. When everything is incoherent noise, the good guidance gets lost in the din, especially if you're going to be punished for following it.
I think Boris has been getting tips from Trump’s communications team judging by his latest updates.

Honestly not sure but from this video there are some states going in the right direction. However, majority either holding steady with rate of infection or increasing:

Breaking down state of play for reopening states amid coronavirus pandemic - CNN Video
We're green on that map, but we still haven't even tested 100k people and we have over a 9% positive rate so it doesn't make me feel too much better. This chart isn't trending up, which is good, but it certainly isn't a downward trend of any sort.

The irony is that these people are probably the biggest flag wavers, yet they will make no sacrifice for their country.

Things are escalating in Pennsylvania.

Schuylkill County sent a later to the Governor stating they plan to defy the states stay at home order and reopen the county this Friday.

This after the Supreme Court declined to lift Pennsylvania's Stay At Home order last week.

Many businesses are already defying the order and already starting to open up.

I see right wingers pushing for an end to the lock-down without any nuance. And I see numerous left-wingers willing incapable of discussing the situation effectively because their response is often a reactionary response to the lunacy of the far right.

Here's the thing. We should have been able to begin the process of easing away from the quarantine by now. And there is a very sane argument to be made that it could and should been done on a state by state, county by county basis. Problem is, this administration is so thoroughly incompetent that one is left wondering if that isn't their intent. And thus, we are nowhere ready.

The past two months should have been spent ramping up our testing capabilities, coordinating a plan for meticulously tracking and handling the sick, of creating a unified federal plan that ensured states like Florida and Georgia weren't undercutting the efforts of the states that have handled things responsibly. One capable of guiding states through the chaos of re-opening.

Instead, Trump and his team have wrecked the economy, have had more citizens die of the virus than any other country by vast margins AND have set the table for potential disaster when we do re-open. And the icing on their shit sandwich (because we know that the south needs an ample amount of sugar with any meal), is that the economy is unlikely to recover either way... because those of us who believe in science realize that we are no safer going out now than we were 2 months ago.
