Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

In theory, definitely agree. But in practice, we all know that isn't 100% followed.

I don't know. I just don't feel like restaurant delivery is essential. And we should be moving towards only essential businesses staying open. But then - what is essential? Lol
Outside of hospitals, I would say grocery stores and gas stations.

I think it's important because a) it reduces load on grocery stores, b) it's helpful for people who don't know how to cook, and c) it keeps local restaurants from bleeding money during a shutdown and going bankrupt, which is a serious concern.
all is this. plus for elderly who simply can't do the right thing like my parents. my siblings and I are insistent that they use a food delivery service as they're both elderly with big health issues, yet they demand to go to the store because the grapes they like are on sale. 🤦‍♂️

Down here most food services have reduced their delivery fees, others completely voiding it, in order to keep selling food and meals. Most stores allow for pick up and carry out, so as to not expose employees and patrons.

Speaking of which, I just got a push notification that all Uber Eats deliveries here are now free

A local restaurant owner was talking a few days ago about converting a couple of his restaurants (think beer hall type places with lots of open space) into temporary food markets for both limited groceries and some prepared meals, to try to address all three of these points. I think it's a potentially good idea, but I fear the situation may have gotten away from his ability to safely implement something like that in such a short time.

Jose Andres is turning at least a few of his restaurants into food kitchens to feed folks who are having a hard time.

I missed a few pages of convo. ¿What did you end up doing?

If you really feel she had covid, just try to stay away from anyone for 14 days. That way if you're an asymptomatic carrier you have less risk of transmitting. I've had a summer cold before any cases were detected here. But I've been very paranoid anyway. I don't have the covid symptoms of fever and dry cough. Runny nose isn't covid. But it still lingers in your head.

Keep your distance in the queue. 6 ft. between each other. And perhaps take a glove to handle the voting machines. Dispose of the gloves once you're done voting and wash your hands immediately afterwards.

Right there with you. Just a normal cold makes you think you've been in Chernobyl for a day.

¡Great time to learn how to make bathtub gin!
It was a month ago now, so no reason to attempt to be tested. We’re just quarantining ourselves for the next two weeks like everyone else.

I know this may not be anyone's priority, but I wanted to mention it. There is going to be a homeless pet crisis. If you can, please consider trying to foster an animal while we're all quarantined. One of the first things people are going to abandon if they are not getting paychecks is pets. Also, with many shelters not open to the public, animals are not being adopted. There is going to be overcrowding. Getting pets out of shelters will alleviate the pet's stress but also ease the burden on the shelters. And hopefully save some pets' lives.

Trump administration's $850 billion economic plan faces uncertain future in Congress

White House signals sending direct payments to Americans
Mnuchin said at a briefing at the White House on Tuesday that the Trump administration is considering sending money directly to Americans in a bid to curb the economic fallout of the coronavirus crisis.

"We're looking at sending checks to Americans immediately," Mnuchin told reporters.
Mnuchin said the administration was looking at ways to provide the checks within the next two weeks.

CNN asked President Donald Trump and Mnuchin about the logistics of an economic stimulus idea that could give $1,000 checks to Americans, which is gaining some bipartisan support.
Mnuchin expressed some support for the idea and indicated it would be discussed during his Capitol Hill meetings.

"I think it's clear we don't need to send people who make a million dollars a year checks. But we like -- that's one of the ideas we like. We're going to preview that today and then we'll be talking about details afterwards," Mnuchin said.

Trump chimed in, saying, "I think we're going to do something that gets money to them as quickly as possible. That may not be an accurate way of doing it because obviously some people shouldn't be getting checks for $1,000. But we'll have a pretty good idea by the end of the day what we're going to be doing."

There's also a significant amount of Americans that don't have access to a kitchen to cook things. These are people that are usually living in long term motel/hotel situations and homeless people.

UGH!!!! I'm trying not to throttle my parents and my IL's. My MIL is talking about how she's taking care of my SIL's kids and wants to just take mine to hang out and see them. My dad--who is on immunosupressing drugs for a transplant--wants to take the kids too. How bad is it when you have to save your parents from themselves. Kids are going to be fine, but could you imagine if they somehow got their grandparents sick?

yeah, my siblings and I feel like we need to parent our parents right now because they're so high-risk and are having a hard time knowing when and where to draw the line.

A lot of talk on economist twitter that means-testing for this is both a waste of time and resources, and especially wasteful when people are going to be needing money *right away*.

Travel bans made the decision for us. I was able to get about 75% of my Airbnb reservations refunded (they have since updated their policy and I'm waiting for a response from them about the remaining 25%). And with the EU shutting down nonessential travel this week, we're waiting to see what the airline does when the flight gets canceled. Refund > travel credit, but we're not holding our breath.
Travel waivers have been issued and I was able to cancel a “non-refundable” flight. I was even able to cancel my “non-cancelable” Hilton reservation by just calling in to a sweet Georgia peach named Rhonda.
