New Music Friday!

Hey team. I don't think the June McDoom EP released last Friday made any of the watchlists. Bandcamp link here.

It's just five tracks, and appears to be this artist's debut. It's got some really fantastic tracks, I love the opener "Babe, You Light Me Up" and the track "On My Way."

As for classification, not sure, maybe I'd go with dramatic and haunting indie pop. Lots of interesting arrangements, vocals, and in-song transitions. As mentioned, this appears to be their debut, so I'll be keeping my ears out for more music given how strong this is.

This is neat, gives me Bat for Lashes vibes.

I missed the new Smino album last Friday, and it's excellent. He's got one of the most unique voices and delivery in rap, just a master of the drawl and bending words to fit his flow on a track. He should be a bigger deal IMO but doesn't really have big flashy singles, just fantastic albums front to back. Monte Booker, J. Cole, and Phoelix among others provide beautiful production for the album too.

This is all I got today. I keep looking forward to Weyes Blood but it's still 2 weeks away 😩. Any band releasing music this late in the year is going to be in trouble. This year was STACKED with good releases and people are winding down their new music listening as we go into the holidays. If I was an artist that could wait, I'd release my record in late January or early February when there's been nothing for a month and people are eager for something new to listen to.

EDIT: this new First Aid Kit album is a really nice listen! my expectations were pretty low so I'm pleasantly surprised.
