New Music Friday!

I’ve never been into Gecs (or hyper pop as a whole) but god damn this album is a blast! And “Frog on the Floor” is the most delightful fucking song I’ve heard in long time lol
I think I figured out why I enjoyed this album so much more than their first album. It’s the Auto Tune. The first album pushes the auto tuning to such an extreme that it’s tough to focus on anything else. The new album still leans on auto tune but it’s taken down a few notches and allows me to enjoy the music and funny AF lyrics. I went back and listened to their debut to see if it clicked with me now that I like some of their music and while I disliked it less. It’s still a bit too much.

It’s good? I was a big fan of Loner, but just didn’t get into Superstar that much. I haven’t listened to any single.
I had not listened to anything by BC,NR after Ants so I had no idea what to expect. I'm really liking Tyler's voice a lot. She sounds A LOT like Jenny Beth from Savages.
I definitely still love Isaac’s voice and writing above all, but I think the new vocalists especially Georgia and Tyler sound great. I’m excited to see what they come up with when they have time to really flesh out the ideas. It’s a very good live album, but I think they still have better work to do with this lineup.

It's a little bit less good than Loner and Superstar after one listen. Much more introspective but definitely a grower. Her trajectory with this albums reminds me of Torres, or maybe it's just because they're both featured sitting on a chair in the center of of the album artwork.

A few songs sound promising that would be cool to hear them more polished in the studio. Definitely a decent live album.

That’s probably it! Their natural voices are really nice and fit a wide variety of genres. That auto tune and high pitched vocals are grating and ruin songs that I would like without them.

Funny enough my one friend who doesn’t really follow music listened to their first album and hated it so we would always joke about them. When I told him I loved this album he was disappointed in me but then the next day he was texting me about how much he loved this new one also!

I guess. The new one seems less like scrolling through TikTok. Also, for both of us, there is a punky and ska feel to some of the songs on the new one.

This is certainly not as bad as some contenders this year, but Johnny Hates Jazz called and asked for their bad cover idea back:
