Definitely took a couple listens to click with me, but yeah I’m liking it too!I think I'm partially deaf after the end of the new Blur, but other than that I liked it a lot!

I owned their first album after they switched names from Sioux Falls to Strange Ranger. I think that album might have been the first album I added to the Discog database. Anyways that album sound a lot like Modest Mouse and I thought it was pretty good. I haven’t kept tabs on them since then though.Stranger Ranger is to me and interesting in that the album is a sonic pastiche. A mashup of experimental dream-pop, shoegaze, neo-psychedelia, chillwave, synth-pop, Britpop and alternative dance music circa 1990s.
From what I've read, their debut album was more melodic post-punk and was inspired by Modest Mouse and Pixies. Their sophomore album, was lusher and more textural in sound akin to bedroom pop. Since then, they experimented with various genres and went in numerous directions which yeilded an ambitious and surprising mixtape in 2021. Fast to 2023's Pure Music, an album recorded in a cabin in Upstate New York, the album nearly abandons all vestiges of the band's previous iterations.I owned their first album after they switched names from Sioux Falls to Strange Ranger. New Blur is fine, I just wish it had more bite to it, more edge. It feels like it could be a Damon Albarn solo album.Decent new music day!
Blur, Andrew Bird, Cut Worms, Guided By Voices, maybe a few others. I have an open Friday for the first time in a long time so should be a lot of listening today!
The more I listen to The Ballad of Darren the more it grows on me and no it doesn't sound like an Albarn solo album, at least not to myNew Blur is fine, I just wish it had more bite to it, more edge. It feels like it could be a Damon Albarn solo album.
