Just had an incredibly interesting/awesome afternoon.
After lunch with my wife we were walking home and decided to take a stop in this very small and hidden and potentially illegal neighborhood book store to browse their classic fiction. While we were there I noticed the clerk and their friend were huddled over an old record player listening to a white label record on it.
I went over and was like “what’s going on over here?” and one of the guys, who introduced himself as John, said “we’re listening to a test pressing of my new record, but this player is really old and it sounds like shit. I’m trying to figure out if I can put an order in with this plant but this isn’t really helpful because I can’t tell what’s the record or just a 50 year record player.”
I liked what I heard coming through the built in speakers, so much so that in a moment of rare spontaneity I said “Why don’t you just come down to mine and we can listen on my system? I live two blocks away.”
He was kind of taken back but after seeing a video of my system he asked if he could come around later in the day. I said sure thing!
Flash forward a few hours and he walks through the door with his record. I put it through the Humminguru and threw it on and we sat on the couch and listened to the full project. Y’all…. his music was stunning and made me an instant fan and I wanted to share here because it deserves your guys ears. He actually seems to be pretty popular with 150,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and has done a world tour and stuff.
He was blown away by how good his record sounded on my system and was overjoyed at hearing it this way. After we listened we spent a bit chatting and when he left I handed him back his test pressing and he refused to take it and told me to keep it

Anyways here’s his latest album (the one we listened to) … I think a lot of y’all will enjoy it. It’s very sunny indie/folk with beautiful guitar playing and bossa nova like elements. It reminded me a lot of Bruno Berle but not Brazilian.
