The Edmonton Oilers are likely to re-sign veteran goaltender Mike Smith to a two-year deal, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

The contract will carry an average annual value of around $2 million, Johnston added.

At 39 years old, the resurgent Smith pitched a .923 save percentage across 32 games in the 2020-21 regular season, the second-best mark of his career. He was eighth in the league in goals saved above average (12.56) and goals saved above expected (7.22), according to Evolving Hockey.


Despite being swept by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Smith registered a .912 save percentage.

i think thats probably okay.. one year would have been better but he probably earned the extra year.

Edit: Just to be clear. Yanni is the worst case scenario for my personal opinion of who we end up losing but giving him having ties there already and the fact that I think he's going to be a stud/ leader in the coming years I'm excited to see him shine over there

I feel the same way about McCann even though he was first traded to Toronto before being selected by the Kraken. I've said it many times before, this player's talent is underrated not to mention he is only 25 yrd old. I wish him nothing but the best in Seattle.
