NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will be away from the team while voluntarily taking part in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, the league announced Thursday.

In September, the Habs announced Price would miss training camp due to a knee issue. On Wednesday, the club said he'd miss the start of the season while recovering from a non-COVID illness.

Price, 34, was integral in helping the Canadiens reach the Stanley Cup Final last season, posting a .924 save percentage in 22 playoff games.

Jake Allen will likely handle starting duties until Price is able to return. The 31-year-old has started 298 games in his career and owns a .912 save percentage.

The recently acquired Sam Montembeault and 2017 seventh-round pick Cayden Primeau make up the depth behind Price and Allen.

Ottawa Senators head coach D.J. Smith announced Thursday that forward Colin White will undergo surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder and is expected to miss four-to-six months, according to Sportsnet's Kyle Bukauskas.

White, 24, suffered the injury during a preseason game Monday after getting tangled up with Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf.

White scored 10 goals and added eight assists in 45 games last season. He was projected to center Ottawa's third line this season, but the club will now have to change its plans.

The Senators drafted White 21st overall in 2015. He put up a career-high 41 points during the 2018-19 campaign, which led to a six-year, $28.5-million deal the following summer.

Wow, Bergevin getting pretty emotional during the press conference. Specific reason is not being mentioned, but it seems to have affected him.

He believes we'll see Carey again this year, but he's out for a minimum of 30 days.
