NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

I realllllllly hate these 3PM weekday games for the Lightning Blue Jackets series. I hope they do us right Wednesday for game 5 cuz my office blocked youtubeTV again!! :(

Evgeni Malkin underwent successful left elbow surgery.

The surgery was performed at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital by team physician, Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, and Dr. John Fowler of UPMC Shoulder and Elbow Orthopedic Surgery.

The expected recovery time for Malkin is three to four weeks.

Well that explains a lot. 🙁

Zach Aston-Reese underwent successful left shoulder surgery.

The surgery was performed at UPMC Montefiore Hospital by team physician, Dr. Dharmesh Vyas.

Aston-Reese is expected to be sidelined for six months.

How many Pens players were playing injured during the qualifying round 😳 😕

The good news is Boston is probably breaking up a lot of people’s brackets. The bad news is that Jack Edwards gets to keep calling games.

If you're are Bs fan, there is nothing better than listening to Jack Edwards call a game. I live in Philly and I can't access the local Boston NESN feed, which sucks when you grow up used to hearing Jack calling games. He's a huge homer, sure, but he knows his hockey extremely well, including the nuances of the opponent's game. I've learned a lot from him, which is something I can't say about the NBC announcers and commentators.

If you live in Vegas, out of curiosity, couldn't you just watch NBC feeds if you don't want to listen to Jack?

Oh, and usually NESN only has local rights to the first round of the NHL playoffs, and after 1st round, NBC and it's affiliates get exclusive rights in the US market. So, if this year is like past years, you won't have to deal with Jack if the Bs advance beyond the first round :)

Most of the time I don’t watch the Bruins play. However, if I do catch myself watching a game and that jackass is my only audio option, I smash the mute button. He might be knowledgeable of the game but his occasional hot takes are terrible. Especially his last one with his poke the bear bullshit.

Hahaha, yeah, one could make a Jack Edwards dictionary with the alternate meanings. "Poke the Bear" is something he says all the time at any major turning point, after things start going the Bs way. I've spent enough time in reddit/ hockey to know why people hate him, but I think he does a lot for growing the Bruins fanbase, and in turn, hockey's fanbase, because love him or hate him, he's an exciting and excitable commentator. I wouldn't want to listen to him if I rooted for a rival team, but when I used to have NHL TV and listened to other teams' local feeds I found so many of their game callers uninspiring in comparison to what I'm used to with Jack.
