Report: Crosby nearing new deal with Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins and captain Sidney Crosby are closing in on a contract extension, sources told The Athletic's Rob Rossi.

Terms of the deal are unknown to this point. Crosby has one season remaining on his existing contract.

He is not an NHL starting goaltender yet in my opinion. In Milwaukee he’s either really good or gets pulled. Seems to be not a lot of in between. With Saros signing an extension, not looking good for him in Nashville even as an backup unless he plays out of his mind in camp. I thinks it’s going to take what the Preds used on him for him to be traded, a top 10 pick in my opinion. He’s not in a position of strength at the moment.
