November 2021 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread: High wind through the trees, falling November leaves, a weak sun hanging low, summer seems so long ago...

National Drummer Day
Play an album with a killer drum solo or by your favorite drummer.

Many of my favorite drummers play pretty minimal kits and incorporate lots of imagination and creativity to take the sound beyond their physical means.

John Densmore is one of those guys. And this song is a perfect example. Wow.

I actually have this performance on a bootleg, so...

15. Song Title "November Spawned a Monster"
Play a punk/post-punk album.

The Impossibles - 4 Song Brick Bomb

My most punk-filled years were also the age of peak CD, so it's time to go digital again with an EP I played A LOT about 20 years ago.

Peter Gabriel has always had a good ear for world music, especially drumming. None more so than in this soundtrack, using traditional sounds and instruments in a very percussion forward way.

I was first inspired to play drums by a few songs I heard when I was young.
Peg by Steely Dan, Last Chance by Shooting Star and Ain't That a Shame - Cheap Trick Budokan version. And numerous others.

Then Led Zeppelin came into my life. But instead of taking lessons or joining school band, I just begged my parents for a kit. They caved, and I played along with songs from Zeppelin IV and Physical Graffiti; dropping the needle on the basement stereo TT and running to my kit to jump in with Bonham. Sometimes I'd put my thumb on the turntable to slow down a fill or beat so I could listen, dissect and learn it.

So, for as many drummers as I love and admire, John Bonham still gets my top spot every time.
Happy Drummer Day!

Sadie Hawkins Day
Ask someone of a different gender to pick your album for today.

I asked my daughter (15) to pick a record for me to listen to....she picked one because she couldn't find the one she was looking for...then found the one she was looking for, so I have to play them both.

Not a whole lot of punk in the collection. More post-punk but I’m honestly not sure what post-punk is. If I’m completely honest, I’m not entirely sure what punk is, my first idea was to play Nirvana - Bleach but both Discogs and allmusic tell me it isn’t. Fortunately I do own a few solidly punk records. Nod to @girlnevergoesout because I had never heard of these guys and I’d say this is easily one of my favorite punk records.

I find myself really enjoying drummers that are having fun up there, not sure if summertime emulates that much more than Chris Murphy. Bassist/drummer in Sloan, and plays drums with Tuns too. This is a great power poppy record if you don't know it.
