November Challenge Thread: All-Stars Edition!

Day 2: Movie soundtrack
Today is a Once sort of day. I have a slight migraine that I took some medicine for but I need something low key for this morning. I love this movie. Everyone’s homework is to watch it if you haven’t seen it.

I love the soundtrack. Have never watched the movie. I really do need to remedy that.

Day 3: Play an extra-long album to fill in that extra hour of your day.

The Appleseed Cast - Low Level Owl

Originally released as two CDs, this one's three full discs on vinyl.

Day 5: Play something pointedly political, or by someone who has used their voice for change.

I'd never own one of his solo records, because he's a gigantic piece of crap and uses his voice to make the world a worse place (bad change), but Ted Nugent was the lead guitar in The Amboy Dukes. Journey To The Center Of The Mind is a great album and was from before he was as vocal of a shit heel. I'm just hoping that the other five members of the band were decent people.

Day 5: @D Jilla hosted November 2020 when the US last had a presidential election. I think we’ve learned the last few years that its important to use your voice.
  • Play something pointedly political, or by someone who has used their voice for change.

Released in 2020, this compilation album with artists on the ATO Records roster supported the BLM movement, Color of Change, and the Innocence Project. And the title is still appropriate today.

Day 3: Kris hosted our November 2021 challenge, focusing “days of the month”. November 3rd is when Daylight Savings time ends.
  • Play an extra-long album to fill in that extra hour of your day.

Stars of the Lid - Stars of the Lid and Their Refinement of the Decline

At approximately two hours, it is a sweeping, enveloping layer of warmth that sits on the intersection of modern classical and drone. But today, that grounded warmth is what is needed over the harrowingly sad themes presented on this masterwork.
RIP Brian McBride.

EDIT: grammar

Redskins - Neither Washington nor Moscow
The band name is very dated and rather cringy these days, but these guys wore their politics on their sleeves (and in their name). With song titles like "Go Get Organized" "Lev Bronstein" and "Kick Over the Statues" you definitely knew their politics. Long live the Red Wedge.

Day 4: waruv gave us the June 2022 challenge based on Taylor Swift. Mrs. ImTheOcean is traveling to Vancouver in December to see the last night of Taylors tour.
  • Play an artist that you have traveled (or would travel to, given the opportunity) go see.

Gigi Masin - Wind

20241105_163733.jpg

I've been blessed to see some of my ambient favorites (Grouper, Tim Hecker, Visible Cloaks, etc.) in concert and get their records signed. Italian composer and producer Gigi Masin is highest on my list of ambient musicians I would like to cross off of that bucketlist. My mother (who has Italian heritage) who hasn't traveled outside of the USA in her life wants to go to Italy someday. She has a rough plan for 2026. Just maybe...
He's one of my top50 all time.

Disappointing. A dark wind blows. Trapped in the belly of this horrible machine.

It was 1999, and Tori wasn’t coming anywhere near NOLA for her To Venus and Back tour. So what did our little crazy butts do? We piled into a car, slapped a huge magnet of Patsy from AbFab on the hood, and drove out to Tampa. It was the first time I had ever traveled to see an artist.

I am still waiting for a vinyl release of To Venus and Back so I am going to play American Posse instead. Maybe because I am feeling the intro track so hard today.

I salute to you Commander
And I sneeze
Cause I have now
An allergy
To your policies it seems
Where have we gone wrong America?
Mr. Lincoln we can't seem
To find you anywhere out of the millions
From the deserts
To the mountains
Over prairies
To the shores
Is this just the madness of King George
