October 2020 Challenge Thread: Let’s Get Weird

Day 03: The Wide World of Sports
We have The MLB post Season, NBA Finals, Football, and EPL all going on right now. Spin something that reminds you of sports.

Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone

Sadly, it's been a really long time since I have followed sports, even though I used to play and watch them, but I do go for solo distance runs (but since I never do them with others or enter races, I guess it's doesn't count as a "sport" at all, just exercise). So I'll have to go with music that makes me think of a football movie/TV show: Friday Night Lights, with its Explosions in the Sky soundtrack.

Day 04: Soundtrack Sunday

Since I watched this movie and the Documentary Memory: The Origins of Alien (2019) yesterday I figured I'd spin this.

Jerry Goldsmith ‎– Alien (Complete Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Mondo ‎– MOND-027D, 1979/2017

4 LP box set - Complete score on LP's 1 and 2, Original OST on LP 3, Bonus Tracks with alternate used and unused cues on LP 4

Spin a soundtrack

I remember buying this soundtrack for it's loose connection to the Talking Heads with the David Byrne and Jerry Harrison tracks.
The movie was directed by Stop Making Sense's Jonathan Demme.
David's duet with Celia Cruz is still fun but I like Jerry Harrison's song better.
I also love the Fine Young Cannibals cover of the Buzzcock's Ever Fallen in Love.
Also, how many 80's movies have Oingo Boingo songs on their soundtracks?

Day 03: The Wide World of Sports

Fleetwood Mac - The Alternate Rumours (Warner Bros, 2020 RSD Limited Pressing)

I played this yesterday but forgot to post it here! 'The Chain' has been used as the theme tune for Formula 1 for ages now. Im not personally into the sport, but I do love hearing the song being played when its on tv. I decided to spin this new pick up, the RSD Alternative Rumours, which has a vastly different version of The Chain to the original!

Day 4 | Soundtrack Sunday
Marvin Gaye - Trouble Man

60s & 70s funk & soul records make up a large chunk of my collection. Inevitably, I’ve collected a good amount of blaxploitation soundtracks. This is the only one Marvin Gaye ever did. It was released between What’s Going On and Let’s Get It On. It’s mostly moody, jazzy instrumental scene-setting music. “T Plays It Cool” stands out though with it’s hard funky drums and sax & Moog parts.
