Thanks for pointing that out. Assuming you are correct, then the cancellation trick is not as exciting as it sounds for big-ticket items (at least not if you live in a state with a high sales tax).

By my calculations, if I were to order 3 Bowie boxes, I’d have to pay about $65 in sales tax. A single box would come down to $240, but the triple sales tax brings it over $300, which is not much less than what I could get the box for through PBC.
I do not believe this is true. The tax gets adjusted later when your card is actually charged from what I recall.

The sale, if it works previously, is great because you can combine media too and their usual record prices are low enough to be good deals at 30% off, then you can usually get free shipping and Red Card discounts and the like.

And I agree, the big box sets are the best bang for the buck but really any three records, if Target is priced in the realm of everyone else,, will likely represent good savings. It's worth running through artists/titles on your want list in advance and hearting them for easy access. Like, people have been raving about the REM New Adventures - its $34 before any discount which means you can bring it down to the mid 20s or so if you have other items. It's all about finding items that don't get priced down much elsewhere or, as suggested, the box-sets for sheer volume.. Looking at my favorites, I have a handful of 15-25 dollar albums I'll probably make a trio out of for this sale.

But yeah, like even without the trick, something like the Joni Reprise Albums, Grateful Dead Box, and Hamilton OST for $170ish is probaby lower individually than you'll see those boxes if you split them out and that's even without the trick.

Yeah, I went back and checked and I was wrong on this. This is how it shows up when you complete the order, but apparently when it actually ships, they recalculate the tax based on just the items that they’re shipping to you.

Sorry for creating confusion on this.

I feel like I remembered people saying they had a hard time finding this before: Daft Punk- Random Access Memories (Vinyl)

Also this seems like a good price on this set (especially once the 3 for 2 deal kicks in):

Weirdly, I saw yesterday that the George Harrison All Things Must Pass 5LP set is selling for a dollar less than the 3LP set.

The Joni Reprise Years box is already priced relatively low, at $85, so yeah, at about $57 with the sale that would be a rockin' deal.

Would someone pls summarize the cancellation ”trick”?
You place your order for three similarly priced items. Immediately after you check out, you follow the email link to your order (or simply go to the order from within the Target website) and you'll see the three items listed individually within your order (assuming different titles, which is recommended). Click 'cancel' for the items you don't actually want to buy. If you cancel two of the three, the one you don't cancel will cost you .67 its list price.

I usually just set the quantity to 3 when I purchase it (rather than trying to find other items for the exact same price) and then when you go to cancel, it’s a little confusing because it just shows you the one item but after you click to cancel there’s a little pop-up that allows you to specify the quantity that you want to cancel (so I just cancel 2 of the 3).

Didn't know that. Thanks.

Cancel culture FTW.

One thing to be aware about on the Target trick is that, by the end, they got REALLY quick about locking down orders. If you can find a pre-order at around the same price that works in the sale it may be worthwhile to add that instead as those don't usually lock until it's shippable, but the Qty:3 is probably safest for maximizing your savings. I imagine worst case you can probably just return the copies after the fact if they ship but avoiding that is best.

Yeah I always go straight into my orders to cancel them immediately and there’s part of me that is always nervous it won’t work for some reason but I’ve never had an issue. I feel like someone here may have though, about a year ago - not sure how long they waited before they tried to cancel, though.

I've devoted much too much time to perusing Target's vinyl offerings, which seem almost endless, with each unique search bringing up stuff that hadn't shown up before. Anyway, this is the (at the moment!) "master list" I'll be working from. Clearly I'll have some decisions to make since I think I'm still capable of reigning myself in when necessary. :p Figured I'd post this since it's such a pain in the ass to see what's available, maybe there'll be something of interest to others.

Found a couple on there I didn't have -- I just canceled my The The - Comeback Special pre-order so I can grab it during the sale.
I already have a copy I got cheap from Amoeba, but the Beautiful Garbage 3LP set is gorgeous.
