Phish

I don't have skin in this game but I was talking to a coworker Friday who said they were seeing Phish at the Moda Center here in PDX on 4/20, and that it was their first show here in 25+ years? How the heck did that happen? They administer Phish stickers with your DEQ emissions test here.

It’s partially a mystery, particularly bc they played Bend, Eugene, and Seattle in the meantime. Part of the reason, though, is that they used to do the PacNW in summer, so played outdoor venues, and Portland Meadows (‘98 and ‘99) stopped being a concert venue in ~2006; started again briefly but is now torn down. Likewise, they’d play the Gorge in summer many years, which effectively ruled out both Seattle and Portland.

But they’ve played indoors in SEA and Eugene in the last 15 years, so the real mystery has been why skip Portland when they’re doing that.

I’ve been to the last two in Portland, and 2nd set Sunday was really, really fun. The crowd was dialed in, as was the band to my (and my friends’) ears. The Sigma Oasis video is on Phish’s YouTube page. Great stuff, and i don’t particularly like the song itself.

That makes perfect sense, especially with the Bend/Eugene/Gorge aspect; there are plenty of artists who actually haven't been in town for a while because they hit up Bend/Hayden Homes and cruise straight up to Seattle.

I wish Phish would play Bonner Springs again in Kansas City. They generally skip this region of the US, unless it's a single night in STL or very rarely that one night in Arkansas. Otherwise it's your standard Alpine, Deer Creek, or Chicago runs. Not even sure they venture up Minneapolis.

I'm not a contributor to his thread - but I thought I should post this here since Trey is on the cover.

My very good friend did an Oral History of the 90s jam band scene.
He did interviews with a ton of bands and people behind the scenes to compile the oral history.

If you are looking for a good summer read - Publisher's Weekly says you should check this out.
I do too.

25% Off Pre-Orders Now at Barnes & Noble too
I heard through the grapevine there may eventually be some vinyl tie-ins tied to pre-orders as well.
