My wife and I are spending the weekend at a hotel on the lake about a mile and a half down the road from my folks' place while they watch the kids. Nanaimo is kind of a shit city, but this is pretty nice.

Speaking of cold, the nice thing we've found about living in Sacramento is that we're not too far from a bunch of different destinations (San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Napa, etc.).

Last weekend we drove to Tahoe just for the day. Had lunch and let Amelia play in the snow for a couple of hours and then came back home.

Right behind my house is a bunch of land that used to be a military base. There are dozens of miles of paved and unpaved roads that are closed to cars, so it's my go-to place for longer runs.

The SF gardens are lovely, and I also recommend the one at UC Berkeley.
