The dems also keep moving rightward to pick up the distracted republicans who can’t swallow Trump and leave their future voter base apathetic and disengaged. They have also picked 3 incredibly poor candidates in a row who have the sole qualification of “not Trump”.
Both sides of your house are broken and your system doesn’t really allow for a third way.
I can't say I disagree. We are perpetually in the "lesser of two evils" mode of voting, grant it, the evil in this case is off the fucking charts, but to your point, our progress in politics moves at a snails pace if at all. I don't expect my President to be perfect and I also don't expect to agree with all their policies, our country/world is too complicated for that, so all you're left with is picking the one who
A. Won't destroy what's left and
B. Helps
ME just a little bit. Let's be honest, Right or Left, money and greed have controlled politics for a good while and we fall victim to the "illusion" of change. I completely understand why Trump won before, for a fleeting moment I too uttered the words "Maybe a businessman is what this country needs", but it didn't take long to see though the bull shit.
Both sides count on compromise, and unfortunately, that's where we are. I have to pick the person who checks the most boxes even if I'm dead set against one of those boxes. So we as Americans are always picking a new driver to get us 4-8 more laps and finish the race without destroying the car, until we get a chance to put in a new driver, maybe a little better, maybe a little younger..................rinse and repeat.
Politics have become exhausting, I've always done my part, but consuming information about a candidate was a much easier to process "way back when", there wasn't as much noise and news wasn't a "group project" consisting of opinions over facts. I don't know what's going to happen in two weeks, considering who the two options are, a level headed sane person with eyes can't believe it's still a toss up. But don't kid yourself into believing that the people come first, for either side, politics has always been about favors. Favors to the other side, favors to corporations, special interests, and the list goes on. Within the framework of all of that, it's packaged and presented to the people of this country with a big red bow and an explanation of how this is good for you.
If we survive this, and survive is the right word, I still don't think I'll see any meaningful changes in my lifetime, and that's sad and depressing. Again, we always find ourselves in a position of making the choice that gives us the opportunity to "fight another day", and right now, that choice is obvious in my eyes.
I was never very cynical in my life, that's gone up exponentially over the last few years, to my disappointment. Maybe is just part of getting older.
