Trump is undoubtedly a representation of many in this country, how many, we'll see. But what he and the right has done is normalize that mind set, if the President of America condones violence, being a bully, the mentality that "someone else is taking what's mine", racism and all the other bullshit, well damn, that means I'm ok, I'm on the right side. He gave the fringe the green light to be their true inner selves without accountability. Trump is leading the biggest circle jerk in this countries history............now we wait to see how many there truly are in that group. As has been discussed on this page, I find this very hard to believe. There is absolutely nothing Trump could do or say that will make his sycophant cult turn on him and he knows this. Either they will find ways to bend over backwards to justify his criminal behavior and normalize his incoherent and nightmarish ramblings or they will just feign ignorance and pretend he never said or did it. Plus for a fairly large percentage of his base the offensive remarks and blatant lawlessness are what they like about him, so difficult to imagine they would suddenly be outraged now.
He's managed to pull the wool over the eyes of a lot of people in this country and it's fucking terrifying. It's honestly ridiculous that the rest of us have to sit around and pretend like this ghoul is in any way, shape or form a normal presidential candidate. I'm tired of being made to feel like I'm overreacting for being outraged, for being scared, for having functioning eyes and ears that are able to see and hear plain as day the things this guy spews out of his mouth.
And unfortunately, as someone who resides deep in Trump territory, I'm increasingly worried that the optimism that I see on here is going to turn out very similar to the 2016 election. The naivete in me would so deeply like to believe we are better than that, but if America willingly signs up for four more years of this shitshow, then it will sadly confirm my fears that he is an accurate representation of a not insignificant portion of this country and that makes me very sad to think about.
I still hold out hope that those making the most noise are actually the minority.
