Political Discussion

Since we live in the upside down, I'd like to agree with MTG for just a moment. Yes, lets divide the country in two, the blue states take Kamala and the red states can have their illustrious leader. They can run their states as they wish, and after a year I'd like to see which population/constituents start defecting to the other side.

Because if DJT bullshit doesn't bite them square in the ass, they don't believe it, even then it might be 50/50 at best, they've guzzled the kool-aid of never admitting your wrong.
This sounds familiar 🤔
I have 5 close friends who have been laid off in the paat 6 months. One of them is in bio-tech and the $ keeps running out. This is the third time he has been laid off during the Biden administration even after leaving CO for NC. Another has been out of work for 10 months after being laid off by Business Insider. Another is living it up working for a reknowned French resteraunt in St Paul after losing his accounting job 6 months ago. Another is now at 4 months since losing her job as a graphic designer. Another just got hired after losing the job he had for 10 years at an investment firm. Oh, and one of the two companies my brother works for in CPG went under after losing investment in August- despite a data story that was on the up.

I was out of work for 4 months in the first half of the year, but now have a job that pays me about 15-20% more. So the economic pressure has lightened-- and yet, it basically feels like what I was making in 2020 financially. Every Costco trip costs $180-200 instead $120-150. Rents gone up $300 in 3 years. Car insurance is up 35%, energy bills 20% and then there's the cost of going out in any capacity. Dating is wildly expensive compared to 5 years ago.

I'm buying a condo and adding a roomate at 37 to alleviate the pressure and feeling like I'm not lighting $1425 on fire every month. I'm also lucky that inheritance is helping me to do so.

So no, I would not say the economy is particularly strong ancedtoally speaking.
This has happened to so many friends of mine in their early 30s in Florida. So many people with money flooded into the state during covid and it has now caused a housing crisis which has led to people not being able to afford necessities and having to either change jobs or get multiple jobs.

I feel like if like there is a good poli-sci dissertation waiting to be written regarding how Trump and his MAGA movement rose to prominence by embracing the ethos of late 90s Pro Wrestling particularly Attitude-era WWF Heel stables, Degeneration-X and WCW’s NWO.

It’s almost the exact same appeal.
It's been written. I've been to a couple presentations on it.

Yeah, I started rewatching old pro wrestling during Covid and it seems so obvious the uninhibited thrill the audience got out of The New Age Outlaws or NWO being total assholes while sticking it to the establishment struck the same nerve that Trump was hitting with his biggest supporters.

I think it was in 2015 or 16, a conference I attended in New Orleans was right across the street from WrestleMania. A few people did papers on how Trump's campaign was one about him playing the heel and he did it flawlessly. He became a fan favorite because he made all the Republicans who should have beat him not know how to deal with him insulting their wives and calling them slurs. If one of them would have punched him in the face, even if they had to drop out as a result, it probably would have tanked his first run. But instead he kept crushing them. Think of all his bullshit during that first run as scripted wrestling and it's spot on.
