Political Discussion

Let's look at inflation, and by all means, share away.

So my cousin owns a service station here in IL, he used to pump gas way back when but opted to go just the service route. This morning he posted a "Now and Then" showing the renovations he's done, funny enough, this was one of the pics.

That was back in 2016, 8 years ago, so I just had to look up the average gas price today in IL for Reg. , $3.319, $1.02 difference in 8 years. While I understand there have been bumps along the road, people digging in there heals about prices need to open their eyes and jump into reality. A reality, that even when the economy is "good", there are still people struggling.

I've come to a certain realization with some of my family that's well off, they just like to complain. I'm not saying they shouldn't complain if something warrants it, but they aren't suffering in any way, shape or form in this "terrible" economy. It just doesn't suit their narrative (they're Southerners).

This is what irritates me the most, that we can look at the sky, know it's Blue, but if the oompa lumpa says it's Orange, they all say it's Orange, while we're staring straight at it. I think I've used the descriptor of "The Upside Down" a lot, but it really is the only way to describe this insanity.

Show him this from Die Hard back in 1988. This is California gas prices. $2 gas is not sustainable for the oil industry. Ask him how many taxes were added onto his gas price in 8 years? Do they have a cap and trade system there that's added onto the gas price through a new tax. That's happening in Washington state. It's not just what Joe Biden is doing.

I really think this is what might finally make the dent in Ted Cruz on Tuesday. The governor and Ted can say "the doctors should've helped her" but their law made it impossible for doctors to know what to do and not be put in jail by some overzealous pro-lifer. You have citizens informing on other citizens. OBGYNs are leaving the state and the rural areas are going to be have lots of dead women and babies. I hope this shocks women in this state to wake the fuck up and realize it's you and your daughter's care that's been affected.

My uncle is well off.

He works in the construction industry as a foreman and is in a union. Makes over 100k every year. He bought his house in the 90's for less than 100k and is now worth a little over a million if he were to sell it in today's housing market and it's location.

Because he works construction in the northeast, he's laid off during the winter months, so that could be 4 months out of the year. He collects unemployment during those months (not that he needs to, just collects it because he can) and spends his winter at a time share at ski lodge. He ski's all winter.

His biggest bitch has always been about gas prices. How high they are and how they are not sustainable even though he has no problem affording them. He's just angry all the time about it and blames the Democrats for high gas prices.

So he blames the Dems for high gas prices and abuses the system intended to help people in need. What a shit ass.

Trump's mike went out yesterday, which makes him rage and he decided to entertain his audience with this... !?!?

To be fair, whenever I am at a loss for what to do I also perform mock fellatio on the nearest object (it's gotten me both out of awkward and into interesting situations). I think we can agree this is a pro move that transcends party lines.

On the real, NPRs Radiolab has a cool piece on the history of the electoral college and the move in the 70s to abolish it on today.

Republicans definitely don’t want the electoral college abolished as they’d never win the Presidency again.

More on the Selzer poll. I am optimistic, but I still remember feeling that Hillary had it locked up. Vote. Get your friends to show up and vote. We can do this but only if people actually go and vote.

ETA: for those not on twitter

I can’t believe just how optimistic and confident I am feeling thanks in large part to this poll. Idk if I’d just hopium but god damn I think we might actually have this in the bag.

My feeling is that he knows he's losing / lost. His internal numbers have to be bad, and with most of the main stream media being too pussyish (is that a word) to write about that, we are being peppered with bullshit polls. Polls mean nothing.

Watch clips from his rallies today (Aaron Rupar on twitter and Acyn post highlights) He's literally what he always projects - low energy, slurring words. He knows it's over. But, we can't be sure until after all votes are counted. And even then, we already know that he's going to claim fraud and file lawsuits disputing the results.

That said, I am very optimistic, I've felt for weeks that it will be a blowout, but I felt the same in 2016. We cannot get complacent. Urge everyone to go and vote. We need the turnout to lock this up.

If Iowa goes blue, then it's not outside the realm of possibility that Florida might flip. That might be asking for too much, but I do believe that it will be much closer than expected. All I want is enough of a lead so it can be called on Tues night. Prob won't happen, but a girl can dream.

I think we have it, but it ain't over til it's over.
