Political Discussion

Can't say I'm not surprised.

I posted an article this morning about how there will be little or no resistance to the republican agenda from democrats. Rather, they are looking for how they can work with them.

Additionally, many are still pointing fingers at the Democratic partying being too far left as the reason Harris did not win. Center/center right democrats are going to be falling in line behind republicans especially if their seat might be contested during the next election cycle.

The app could very well remain on the app stores past the deadline, and the government may be required to take some kind of legal action and notify app stores to take the app down. Additionally, the website would still be accessible. It's not expected that they would reach out to every ISP to block the domain as well.

Additionally, a VPN can get you around any ban / block.
Yeah, but Apple will stop hosting the app in the App Store and supplying updates they aren’t making money off of TikTok and they aren’t going to litigate the federal government in order to keep it available. Eventually, it will no longer function properly as it get more and more buggy.

sure VPNs and other work around will remain an option but most casual social media users are just gonna move on to the next thing that much less of a hassle. There’s no underlying loyalty to TikTok. If it doesn’t work easily people will move on real fast.

That's true on iPhone. Android users could just side load it.

While for our age group there is no underlaying loyalty to TikTok, this is not true of younger generations. TikTok is by far the preferred social media platform and does have very loyal users.

CNN had a piece yesterday, about where social media has been banned in other countries, say Turkey for example, the vast majority of the population still accesses social media platforms daily via VPNs. And this is expected to be the case with more than 50% of TikTok users in the United States should it be banned according to polls.

I promise you it ls the same. They just haven’t been around long enough to have to find something else but young people are even more fickle than us aged millennials. If it becomes illegal, some will continue to use it for a while but as everyone else moves on to the next thing (and there is always a next thing) less people will be left behind and less still that will vocally complain about it.

Yeah, and if all social media was banned it would be different but that’s not what’s happening. Someone will make something that does something slightly different but basically the same. It will be new and easy to access and owned by someone friendly. The people most upset and understandably so, are the influencers. They don’t wanna have to start from scratch and will paint a much more dire picture to serve the own interests which is the status quo.
