Political Discussion

Teachers are on strike in Dedham MA this morning, school is canceled. Teachers have been without a contract for 2 years now and they can't come to an agreement on wages and healthcare.

While in recent years we have heard about strikes all across the country for teachers, this strike is especially notable because it is illegal for teachers to strike in Massachusetts. The union / teachers will face fines and if they don't return to work additional punishments.

IT'S FINALLY HAPPENED!

America has been made great again!

We can at last relish in the futurism of an optimistic 1950's and competitive 1980's society.
Thank you Jesus and can we please get the reboot of The Breakfast Club we've all been dying for.

Oh god, they called the project "Xanadu". HAVE YOU NOT SEEN CITIZEN KANE!!!

So... Joe Biden (who spent a million dollars more than he raised last quarter) is so desperate that he is backing out of the agreement to not use Corporate Super Pacs. Because apparently upping your chances at winning the primary is worth alienating progressives even further and upping the chances that your nomination depresses turnout against Trump.

Also, Bernie's released his plan to federally legalize Marijuana at 4:20pm yesterday and it's super dope. Would use the tax money to support minority businesses, would attempt to expunge past convictions for marijuana, would ban big Tobacco from entering the industry, would encourage marijuana shops to set up as cooperatives and encourage them to be set up like non-profits that funnel money back into local communities.

As somebody who has spent my whole life in either CO or CA- Colorado did it the right way where as CA did not. And this plan is better than both of them.

Sorry for the blast of Bernie content but this Daily / NYT podcast is a really interesting listen:

Part of it actually gets under my skin. They clearly pick soundbites from the zaniest of supporters instead of the more articulate. For example, 90% of supporters I know would frame his heart attack through the lens of a movement and it being bigger than Bernie (or point to the fact that he is mentally sharp while Biden is not). But you don't hear any of that here.

They also misrepresent how he was polling before the heart attack- he was polling very well or leading in many of the early states while placing in 3rd nationally.

That said, it's worth a listen and DOES help frame the passion of his supporters, their disillusion with the DNC, their distrust of Warren (but willingness to vote for her), their unwillingness to vote for Biden, the ideological war within the Democratic Party and how that plays into a general election against Trump.

I think about how much the Obamas made it known that DC was their new home. And how they got out into the neighborhoods and restaurants and events and met people (as much as one can when one is the Pres). And contrast that with this orange person. He's never ever tried to make anyone in DC feel as though he appreciates the city or the people. He's actually been pretty darn disparaging to the city.

So yeah, Orange Cheetoe Dude. This is what the city in which you live thinks of you. Please leave now.

Yes, but Trump campaigned on "draining the swamp" and being a threat to the elite people in DC. So alienating anyone in that city plays well with his base.

The thing is, the citizens of DC are not the swamp. The swamp are those lobbyists and politicians that come into our city from elsewhere.

But yes, I get what you're saying. DC represents the swamp to his constituency.

Charles Kupperman, one of Trumps former National Security Advisers defied a congressional subpoena earlier today and was a no show at the House impeachment Inquiry.

This is apparently part of a plan to prevent democrats from quickly gathering evidence in the impeachment inquiry.

Charles Kupperman previously refused to show which lead to congress issuing a subpoena.

The game is to delay this in court as long as possible.

I'm willing to bet Charles Kupperman will also use the defense of the Impeachment Inquiry is illegal and therefor not valid and he doesn't have to appear until they hold a formal vote and include republicans. Not to mention I doubt he will sit in jail long, he will post bail.
