Political Discussion

This is crazy.
Expect more of this sort of crap as the big guys try to muscle each one out of the market.

HR just sent out a company wide email informing everyone of this.

They heard back from the corporate benefits manager. There is a direct mail piece that will be going out in the coming weeks about the flu shot and where to get it. They also provided a PDF of the mail piece that HR can share now.

And that PDF from United Healthcare of course has zero mention of CVS.

It just talks about the flu shot being free with insurance at over 50,000 locations with a dagger legal notation that says "in-network locations only"

That the flu shot is more important than ever this year, and where to get the flu shot.

That list is:
  • Albertsons
  • Safeway
  • United Supermarkets
  • Costco
  • Harris Teeter
  • H-E-B
  • Hy-Vee
  • Kmart
  • Kroger
  • Meijer
  • Publix
  • Rite Aid
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
CVS is notably missing. There is no mention that CVS is no longer in network, and unless you read through the list looking for CVS, it's easy to miss, especially when you get your flu shot at CVS every year.

Not to mention it doesn't help that that this information was not going to be provided for a few more weeks.

This is a direct result of CVS buying Aetna.

All the CVS's near me closed years ago. We only have Walgreens now.

My office does flu shots onsite for all employees and extended workforce (contractors and vendors) as long as you schedule your visit.

A series of studies published in Social Psychological and Personality Science found that people of higher socioeconomic status (SES) score consistently lower on tests of emotional intelligence, especially when they perceive high levels of inequality in their community. The researchers suggest that high SES and high subjective inequality promotes increased self-focus and less motivation to attend to others’ emotions.

Just in case y'all are wondering why are leaders are the way they are (this includes our corporate overlords).

One woman works 30h/w at Starbucks so she can afford to be a childcare worker. Starbucks pays $15/h as opposed to $10/h as a childcare worker. And Starbucks has benefits.

"Their devotion is a subsidy to the rest of us."
