The 12th vote is underway for McCarthy.

I was reading that McCarthy's best bet of winning the election would be working with the otherside of the aisle and gain support from some Democrats. But that McCarthy would never work with Democrats for votes because that would be considered political suicide.

The far right is not budging and not giving him the votes.

Edit: ballot #12 failed to elect McCarthy. But he did gain some support apparently edging just slightly closer to getting enough votes.

He made some deals that brought some of team crazy into the fold. I really, REALLY hoped making these concessions would move some of the more reasonable republicans to vote away from him but this:

"allowing a single lawmaker to force a snap vote at any time to oust the speaker, a rule that would effectively codify a standing threat that Mr. McCarthy would be at the mercy of hard-right lawmakers at all times, and could be removed instantly if he crossed them."

... is a recipe for chaos that will lead to much fuckery.

My understanding is that they want this in order to get him to do their bidding but also as a standing threat to put the orange traitor in as speaker. which is hilarious but terrifying at the same time.

We can only hope. Everyday McCarthy shows up will be a flip-o-da-coin to determine if he keeps his job. I hadn’t expected much meaningful work to be accomplished is this congress but this will make it even more disfunctional.

I look forward to the daily tweets, media pressers, etc from Reps about Dems failures to save America from the fuckery 🙃
 
Will McCarthy get it done tonight like he is insisting he will? CNN is projecting that he will need 1, maybe 2 more votes to get the job done. Which very well could happen tonight.

So far he has gotten 15 of the far right holdouts to flip.
