Political Discussion

We've already banned federal money from being used to purchase subway cars built by chinese companies. Which is an issue, because we don't have any industries left in the USA that can manufacturer them or design them for that matter.

Massachusetts is currently in the process of replacing all Red Line and Orange Line trains, and is ineligible for any federal funding because of this. Despite the fact that every last subway car was manufactured right here in Massachusetts. This is because the company who designed and built the subway cars is based out of China. And the designs and prototype for testing were developed in China. Then they bought a facility in Springfield MA to do all the assembly because it's 10 to 15 years worth of work. Not to mention Philadelphia has now purchased subway cars that will end up being built in Springfield after our subway cars have been completed. And like us, they get screwed out of federal funding.

Meanwhile while we are at it, lets ban TikTok.

This spy balloon crap is getting me stressed. Not because of the balloons, but because the coverage and the surprise/outrage I'm seeing. We spy on so many other countries, and it's a given that they're spying on us (in general I'm not specifically pro-China or pro-USA, but it frustrates me so much how we Americans like to point out terrible things China does when they're not so far off from the terrible things we do). So I detest the "look what China's doing!" of it all. I worry it could escalate, or that the fervent attention on it belies people's desire for the situation to escalate.
Its the culture, look at everything over the past few years, nothing is about accountability, it's all, well, so and so did the same thing, or he did it too, see, they did it too, regardless of the fact it's wrong across the board.

Its all leverage aimed at the group you're catering to, nothing more. We're always left with the lesser of evils and it's exhausting.

So… I’m reading Shout Sister Shout! Which is a biography of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She is playing the Cotton Club currently. I never knew much about the Cotton Club before now other than it was important venue for Jazz in the early twentieth century.

I had no idea that it was a replica of a plantation or that blacks weren’t allowed as patrons. It describes Duke Ellington’s band having to perform jungle music on jungle sets and dressed to match.

The African-American performers hated it, but it’s radio program was a way to get the music national exposure and it was important in launching a career.

What the fuck is wrong with humans? Jeebus.

All calculations are showing the GOP controlled house does not have enough votes to raise the debt ceiling. If we don't raise the debt ceiling we will default on our debt and it won't be good.

McCarthy is trying to prove everyone wrong. But ultimately is going to have to concede to the far rights demands to get anything done, which would or course result in no votes from the democrats.

Will the GOP try to them blame democrats for a default?

I know this doesn't look good for the GOP if they control the house and can't prevent a default. But, how are they going to spin this. And what is there base going to think about it?

China is accusing the United States of Illegally flying more than 10 balloons in it's airspace since January 2022.

Donald Trump is making expanding the death penalty part of his 2024 campaign.
Wow, going from “I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue” to “I will shoot someone on Fifth Avenue.” Don’t just dream it, be it. 🤷
