Political Discussion

My father just sent me a text cheering on the explosion of "that asshole" saying he got what he deserved. Said this was an actual insurrection unlike January 6th, and the stormed the capital building leading protesters in and there was all kinds of violence and destruction of property.

So did I get that right. He just gave the description of January 6 for the protests on Gun Control, but January 6 wasn't real. Yeah, sounds about right...

Yeah, I keep seeing conservatives use this line of “thinking” straight faced w/o realizing the irony.

Not to mention, where was the violence? The insurrection. Sure there was disobedience to rules by by interrupting the flow with a blow horn. But that's no insurrection and it's not violent. And I'm sure that's not the first time that has happened either. Just because they were democrats, post Trump and this has to do with Gun Control has everything to do with it.

@Twentytwo best of your knowledge, will these districts hold special elections? I assume these representatives could be re-elected?

Yes they will. They will likely be re-elected if they choose to run again and they can't be removed from the TN House of Representatives for the same offense. I mean they can only gerrymander so many districts especially when its comes to Memphis and Nashville.

The Tennessee Three proceedings were intense! I'm find it hard to imagine there won't be a major clap-back on the conservatives over this ordeal. All three defendants truly laid bare the emperor's lack of clothes.

In the GOP's haste to frame their peaceful protest on the level of Jan 6 under the guise of "rules of House decorum," Rep. Pearson made it 100% clear how they were misapplying their own rules given the provisions for censure as the max consequence for transgression of house rules. Sounds like their local commissions who are responsible for choosing replacements are already prepping to seat the expelled members back in their positions.

It's funny to me how they pretended each motion to expel had a different author/sponsor given they merely copied the resolutions and swapped defendant names, resulting in demonstrably false claims against the defendants (as Gloria Johnson so gladly made clear). Margo Price got quite a few name drops over misappropriation of her own bullhorn as the one that was used on the floor on the day of the protest.

If this weren’t the dumbest timeline, this Tennessee shit would be the tipping point back to society trying to function again. Because it is the stupidest timeline, it’s probably the tipping point to the authoritarian right gain control of everything.

Not like an overwhelming majority, but...I would not be surprised if it was a majority who were unaware. Even if it didn't cross the 50% threshold, it's still a huge plurality.

How on earth was your wife able to miss the Trump indictment though? Surely the coverage of that was more wall-to-wall than this.
Knowing her she probably has some trump filter set up on everything to ignore him.
