Political Discussion

As we get nearer to the 2024 Election I'm only growing more concerned.

I don't think Biden is the guy for the democratic party. The only thing he has going for himself is he is the lesser to two evils.

The biggest liability in Biden's reelection chances has always been his popularity. And he's never been able to fix it. The latest polls continue to show that only 30% of Americans approve of Biden and how things are going.
Polls at this point are meaningless to me, but I will admit that these numbers scare the fuck out of me.

Yikes, this only angers me more.

It's like the right and their group manufacture these lawsuits to ingrain their view points.

Take a look the Colorado Bakers Wedding Cake case. The SCOTUS ruled in favor of the baker, and that he didn't have to make a cake for a same sex marriage couple due to religious objections and that Colorado's law requiring him to is unconstitutional.

But since then as more info has come to light, it looks like the incident never actually took place, and that there was never a cake not made. The lawsuit was filed preemptively in the event that the situation should ever occur. And all the info in the case related to the incident was manufactured / fake.

I feel that if Biden bows out, Kamala is going to bring out the crazies and non-crazies for Trump like no other. Not because she's bad or unexciting for the base but because they're f'ing racists and the fear of a black, liberal woman running the country might be scarier than Hillary. I would love to be wrong but I feel like she's more hated than Biden when she's really not done much of note other than existing.

Is there anyone else though who we can put forward?

Gavin Newsom seems like he's waiting in the wings but that's just going to lead to more culture warring for some as he's the face of San Francisco's and LA's current problems with mass homelessness. It would be Fox News' dream to have him on the ticket. It would drag him down but he's certainly the guy to take on Trump from an energy and messaging standpoint. He's not afraid to dish it out. I don't see the DNC letting him jump past Kamala. That's why my preference is to have Biden run again and hopefully win. Then he can step down when he's ready and pass the reins to her. Then 2028 is anyone's game.

Something has to give. Medical bills are getting way to insane for most people to be able to afford. Insurance is also insanely expensive and tries to get out of paying for whatever it can. So the end result we have is people getting sued who can't afford to pay their medical bills.

It boggles my mind at how many more lawsuits there were in 2021 than just a few years earlier form this one hospital alone.

While I won't argue that the economy is better than it was when Biden took office. I don't think the economy is as strong as this article makes it out to be.

Why? Take a look at charts that show how much debt Americans have. All this spending in the economy is not cash, it's all incurring debt. Well, not all of it, but you get the idea. And that's not sustainable. Things are expensive, wages are stagnant for the middle class, interest rates are high. First time home buyers are priced out of the market.

When politics go too far.

So my daughter has this book. ABC What Can She Be? It’s an alphabet book where each letter represents a profession that anyone could do. The idea is you can be what you want little girl.

Anyhow, in the book V is for Vice President and there is an African American lady that is the VP of the country. Talks about being ready to take over should something happen to the president.

Chick-Fil-a does board books for toddlers with their kid’s meals and Rose got a miniature version of the book. V has been replaced with Veterinarian, I would guess because you know a large percentage of their customers are outraged at the fact that there is an African American woman VP.

Is Biden extreme?
The only extreme Biden is, is extremely old. Socialist policies of the 1930’s-60’s are what redistributed wealth in this country so that America grew to have an economy that shaped the world. There was a sharp reversal in the 1970’s when neoliberalism reared its ugly head and the true de industrialism happened—because you can’t have capitalism without slave labor and resource exploitation.

While Biden has a strong track record, it’s largely due to people around him reacting to crises that the democrats allowed to happen through inaction—like SCOTUS effectively reversing Rowe v Wade. He’s gotten major cohesion from his party, but like every single politician in the last decade or so, has been unable to reach across the aisle for support.

I think the most toxic part of politics in the last decade is the them vs us that both parties proliferate. It makes individual law makers unable to act independently, and when a politician does act independently (see Liz Chaney) they get derided for it. Thus, the reason we get more of the same is because we reward politicians who file lock step in with the party. And since the party decides who gets campaign funds, this just becomes a snake eating its own tail. No populist candidates will ever be funded because what’s good for workers is not good for rentiers or financiers who ultimately fund both parties.

Yeah the post WWII Keynesian economic consensus did, to a point, begin to even things out. The rich of course didn’t like it and when the unions got a bit too strong and there began to be wobbles in the 70s the overcorrection was just so extreme and it’s just loaded the cards so much in favour of the super rich and it’s gross.
