Political Discussion

I mean, historically it sort of is? Training Day literally takes place in West Lake / Silverlake. And Echo Park home owners are still predominantly Latino on my side. That said, no... I was more referring to my communities in Downey, Whittier and Commerce.

It’s also worth noting that I work for a vendor in the natural foods industry. And so my work life is heavily Latino too because they literally run that scene out here (particularity Whole Foods).

Boyle Heights is East LA. Ask the gangs from either neighborhood and they will say the same thing. While, Downey and the rest are east they are not part of LA City. Don't forget HP either.

I am so tired of this shit, it never ends. Social Media will be our deaths.

comparing medical records to birtherism is fucked-up.
and also there are people that would prefer Bernie appear incapable getting through a presidential term

both can be true

social media and really the way we all consume any media today is trying to cram everything into black and white / yes and no boxes.
when there is no room left nuance how much "truth" or "facts" do we really understand?

I think I've posted this here before, but one of my favorite professors was a Minnesotan descended from Norwegian Lutherans, and in my senior year we had a 4-student seminar class at this little bar on campus. He would never have more than one beer, except for the time he got plastered...and the next week he was back to one beer again. When somebody asked him about it, he said Minnesota's #1 life lesson is "Moderation, moderation, moderation, and not too much of that."

Oh God - I'm living inside of this professor's brain. It hurts. Somebody please let me out....

or at least send more beer

Yeah I absolutely feel you on that. But does one have to differentiate between “East Los” and East LA ;)

Because my friends who grew up in Montebello or Commerce would push back hard against idea that they didn’t grow up in East LA.

Either way, the way I meant it was more in regards tothe East side of the 101 aka the traditionally Hispanic neighborhoods and not the south central frame of reference that it’s also often associated with.

1/2 way to San Bernardino.

i used to have to take the bus the 10 miles or so to Claremont. It took over an hour with a transfer. It was far quicker to ride my huffy. WHich btw I was pulled over on twice during my time there for riding without lights. The fuzz was not cool in that area

Montebello and Boyle Heights lines do blur. And all these neighborhoods share a similar demographic of Mexican heritage. Most of the Central American population is in Korea Town.

Anyway I do agree with you on the Bernie Bro narrative. It's blown way out of proportion when you look at his support. However it fits right in to the cooperate media sweet spot, Anti socialist and victim story. I'd like to ask people who it turns off how much they have encountered this, probably not at all.

I have been asking and most of what I'm hearing is negative interactions experienced by women (primarily) when interacting online. I also think the narrative is feeding the perception that it's more pervasive than it is.

The basic summary is methane emissions from fossil fuel production are between 25% and 40% greater than previously estimated to be. Fossil fuel production is having a much bigger impact on global warming than previously thought.

The good news is they know where that methane is coming from. And that means they can address the issue to reduce emissions.

The bad news for us Americans is that the Trump administration is proposing to erase all regulations on methane and would no longer require the industry to monitor for and stop leaks of methane. Cutting back regulation could save the industry millions a year.

Methane gas is the most potent greenhouse gas.

I didn't read the article but no one is turning off the fossil fuel faucet anytime soon.

Methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2. I forget what the exact % difference is but it's significant.

What is perhaps most frightening when you consider the ramifications is the amount of methane stored in the vast tundra soils in the arctic and the methane stores in continental shelf sediments.

With warming those 'frozen' soils are melting, spurring on increases microbial activity ' decomposition' and releasing more CO2 along with the methane stored in the frozen soil water. Just google videos of people lighting the ground on fire in alaska or wherever.

here's some info on the ocean methane:

I would not have made that comparison. Every one running for president is not without faults but I will take anyone over Trump. I think the thing that bothers me about social media and in general these days, is that everyone is so fucking self righteous. I totally agree with what you said about everything having to be black and white. I'm not optimistic about the future.

The other highlight: watching every democratic nominee other than Bernie say the DNC should do whatever they want at the convention. I thought Warren had the best night other than that.
