Political Discussion

I was talking to a friend about this phenomena. He mentioned that latino families are apparently very good at rising to middle class/upper middle class after 2 generations or so. They benefit from the left's enabling of their ability to come to the country and start a new life with govt assistance, and once they're here and in the system generating wealth they typically begin to skew more conservative, much of that likely has to do with an increased protectiveness over their lifestyle, wealth, yada yada due to their relationship with having experienced a vastly less privileged lifestyle somewhat recently.

One of my coworkers was telling me about this. While he was born in the United States, his parents and most of his relatives were immigrants from Uruguay. While he himself is liberal, he says all his family are conservatives. And that Hispanic are very conservative overall. They don't see themselves as the immigrants taking American jobs. They came over legally and feel above the "illegals". Their distaste for "illegals" is right up there like MAGA conservatives. They are very much like if I can over legally you could and should have as well. People like you are taking our jobs and making our life harder.

I just don’t think he’s that quick to think “this will create a powerful image”
I don’t like to give Trump credit for anything but I fully acknowledge his skills as an opportunist. We see it in real time, in his stream of conscious ramblings his mind is alway tuned in to how he can take advantage of any situation he’s in. I thinks it was just another example of him seizing the moment. I don’t think; when he first lifted his fist, that his intent was to create an iconic moment but once he saw the crowd’s reaction he capitalized on the situation.

He won in 2016 because no one gave him credit for anything, thus resulting in no one taking him seriously. Now, we refuse to give him credit for fear of him gaslighting us like he did others. Family, friends, neighbors. America has never had the mental capacity for someone like Trump.

Oh no! How will California cope with losing those 14 remaining jobs at Twitter!?!!

I wonder if in Texas, he also can take disciplinary action against employees who have their pronouns for their email signature?

This is straight up my mother's thing. She literally escaped Cuba via Spain and when she arrived in Franco's Spain was given help via social programs -- a place to stay, a job, food assistance, a winter coat (winters in Madrid are kind of harsh) etc. Taking her to a Dr's appt about a year ago she went on and on about immigrants taking social benefits from Americans. "You mean like you did in Spain? I got mine so fuck you dirty immigrants that came after me?" "That's different"

We're an at-will work state so you can be fired for any number of reasons and while there's protections for certain groups, I highly doubt anyone in this state that could have regulatory authority would do a thing if he chose to do so.

The only protected class going forward will probably be religious people who feel discriminated against or workers who feel they were passed over because of DEI.

He must be moving to Texas so he can practice his great solar for when the grid goes down again

You mean religious people only if they’re Christian

Lulz at moving Twitter to Austin. Those Twitter employees are going to just love summers in Austin and the first time ice cancels everything in town. Or when the power goes out and stays off for a week. But at least parents are able to know what their children's sexuality or gender identity is at school here even if that could lead to abuse or being kicked out of the house.

Here’s another thought; why don’t parents just ask their kids how they identify? If the parents aren’t gigantic assholes it should be a fairly easy conversation to have. If your kid is hiding their gender preference from their parents but not from a bunch of shithead teenage bullies in high school then I think it’s safe to assume you have much bigger fish to fry as a parent.
