Portland / Oregon

I’m selling my Mofi Ultradeck TT. It’s in great shape and I’ve loved it for a couple years.

Enough so that I’m upgrading to a nicely discounted “scratch and dent” (but barely, barely, ever so slightly actually scratched/dented) Masterdeck, their newest, bestest model. In other words, I’m selling bc I really like Mofi TT’s.

Would love to sell locally to avoid shipping, although I do have original shipping box and materials that you’re welcome to have.

$1,000

It comes with their Mastertracker MM cart (a $500 add-on when new). It still plays fine but is probably due for a retip soon.

Belt is in good shape. I replaced it last year.

I’ve never used the dust cover, so that’s in like-new condition.
I'm interested. Think it would be a good upgrade from my Fluance. I'll shoot you a message.

My recollection without looking is that, if you search my old posts in the Mofi Studiodeck/Ultradeck forum, you’ll see I had the Fluance with the upgraded platter and upgraded cart (to OM20, so not a huge jump).

You’ll also see what I thought of that transition. I really liked the Fluance and recommend it to people looking for good value. The Mofi is on another level, amd I’m pretty sure I said as much.

Damn, when's the last time you missed one?

I skipped 2018 because of publicist clownery. Same reason I'm not feeling it this year. Communication is almost non-existent and I can't get clarification on ANYTHING. They didn't send out media approval letters until Thursday and when they did, they were a mess.

Anyway... here's a pic from Viagra Boys in 2019.

I had submitted a neighbor request for a free pass and hadn't heard anything back. When I emailed they said I should have an email about it, but I didn't. Once I got someone helping everything was great, but same in not having any communication until I reached out. Unfortunately have to look at it as a different beast now than it was before some of the old group left.

I think it goes in waves. Some of the old group weren't my favorite. In 2017, they hired a shitty publicity firm that fucked everything up and I always suspected that it played a role in why Ty Segall and that crew stopped coming back. I skipped 2018 and they corrected the ship. The last 3 years were pretty great. Last year they didn't send approval until the 28th, but at least everything came through as it should, so I didn't sweat it.

I can't imagine this new guy will stick around. It's a mistake if he does. Nobody outside the immediate area would bother planning to cover a festival that waits days before to confirm credentials. Right now, I'm not willing to spend my day planning, packing up, and getting supplies for this.

The initial approval letter requested to let them know asap if we need a photo pass. Then immediately after it stated that they'll already know because it would have been marked on the application. Then it states that they have a list of everyone who is approved of one, but that they're not telling us. If you show up on site to check-in and you don't get one, you'll know you weren't approved.

That is fucking insane.

And that's just the beginning of it.

Plus, Gyedu-Blaylock Ambolley, Upchuck, and Coco Rosie are all off the lineup

We love going, but there are so many potential obstacles right now

Yeah, sounds like a real tough call with all the not knowing. I remember having that issue going to Bumbershoot with a friend that was press. They would tell us about a week out of the fest. Hard to lock in plans at that point. Total bummer when Ty Segall and crew stopped coming, it was great to see them in all the different formations of bands and just coming to be there.

Yeah. I used to cover Bumbershoot and most festivals have issues behind the scenes. Pickathon is my favorite and totally worth it, but it's definitely the most grueling. I'm getting all these weird references to things changing in ways that would totally hinder my ability to do anything that I was planning to, so it feels like the decision is being made for me.

I'm sure it will still be great if you're just attending

Bummer you may not make it, but sounds as though you have some valid reasons. I do know that things have tightened up a bit this year, for a variety of reasons. Not making excuses, but it may have something to do with your experience. Still, it's a bummer.

In any case, I'm fairly close with the organizers and would be happy to provide specific feedback, if helpful. I'm sure they would appreciate the perspective, to be honest. A lot of details get missed due to the sheer scope of putting on a festival like this, with the vast majority of work done by volunteers. In many ways, it's amazing to think that they have managed to keep things rolling for 20+ years. Feel free to DM if you like.

Gonna make it to Pickathon on Sunday. Look forward to catching up with anyone making it there!
Cool, see you out there. Sunday schedule looks great. Don't miss La Lom @ Woods, as I think you have already seen Ratboys? Shortly after that, Billie Marten -> Dean Johnson -> Geese -> Courtney will be a fun run.

I've seen Ratboys a couple times lately, so might look at La Lom. Right now it's looking like this for me - Sluice -> Jeffrey Martin -> Florry -> Ratboys/La Lom/Jess Williamson -> PACKS -> Dean Johnson -> Geese -> Courtney Barnett -> Greg Freeman.

I saw La Lom at Polaris Hall a few months back. Super engaging live band. I have yet to see Ratboys, so will likely go that route on Sunday. And good call on Greg Freeman. I'll be catching him on Friday as well.

FWIW, my full Sunday run: Sluice -> Searows -> Irreversible Entanglements -> Florry -> Ratboys -> JD Simo -> Billie Marten -> Dean Johnson -> Geese -> Courtney Barnett -> Greg Freeman -> Soul Rebels -> Pahua. See you out there!

I saw Ratboys open for someone at Rev Hall a while back, and they were great. Opened for the Decemberists a couple weeks ago at the amphitheater in Bend, and they were decent there. Just a little bit big for them. And that Greg Freeman record is great, looking forward to hearing that live. Biggest battle will be getting the lady to stay all day 😁

Pickathon 2024 is a wrap. As always, it was beautiful and inspiring and unforgettable. Over 4 days, I saw 31 unique bands play 39 sets of music. Ran into @Dead C and family, and saw @Matt M from a distance during Jeffrey Martin's set. Still feeling very energized, but will undoubtedly feel like I got hit with a Mack truck tomorrow. Here are a few photo highlights from the weekend...

Really glad we went. Ended the night eating tacos with 3 of the guys from Geese.
