Pre-Order Thread

Vinyl is very much a luxury brand now get used to prices continuing to go up. Everything that’s looked like the shark jump hasn’t panned out so this is the way it is now
I'll be curious to see if prices dip down once the pressing pipeline rights itself post-pandemic.

Not to get all Econ 101 on you, but demand is high (due to increased interest and consumers tending to have more spending cash after the year long lock down) while the production is low because plants are backed up, etc.

🤞Maybe - once the plants get back up to speed, prices dip back to somewhat (tolerable) normal as demand and production meet in the middle?🤞

I dunno. Sony/Sony subsidiaries were charging $30+ for a 2xLP six or seven years ago - way before any of this. I wonder if everyone else just saw that people were still buying it and slid up.

More reasonable but like...$40 is audiophile record territory. I dunno, I'm definitely feeling a bit priced out at this level and it moves it from "purchase" to "wait and see" territory.
$40 for a 2LP + 7” is the most I’ll pay on a non-“audiophile” pressing, and mostly because this has been on my wantlist for awhile now. For most other pressings this would be a pass for me. It’s a shame that so many pressings are so expensive now especially with so few details. For that price I usually wanna know sources, who cut it and where it was pressed.

Im just hoping the upcoming Dawes album wont have a warping issues like the North Hills reissue had that also included a 7". I'm convinced because that package was so tight that the 7" combined caused the warping.

We’ve simple got to stop spending this much on records. I really like the new Lydia Luce but refuse to spend $40 on a single lp.
I saw a post for Grimeys one day on their instagram that they have this in their store and it was not $40. I think it was $24.99. You can call them and pay over the phone and have it shipped to you if you really want it.

How will the plants get back up to speed tho? They were already at capacity before COVID, and that Apollo fire didn't help

Looks to be a Magnolia variant as well.

What's your opinion on a $24.99 LP that ends up costing $40 after S&H.

I have seen that a couple times now and I was like nope. Not going to pull the trigger. I'll just get the regular pressing from BM.
The Lydia I mentioned was a 30 that came to forty after shipping.

it’s forcing me to preorder less, also to get from my local more often, which I feel good about.

Yeah when I see people griping about shipping it pisses me off. Shipping costs money, artists and smaller stores won’t have shipping contracts and have to charge you what it costs them. The alternative to go local (great choice support local and support small businesss) or buying from the likes of Bezos and perpetuating the employment abuses in their delivery rackets.

I’m not griping about shipping. However $30 is pretty much my cut off for a single lp (nonaudiophile). Most places charge a little more for shipping than they get charged. I’m fine with that.

$10 for shipping is not okay. Unless it is gonna be something above media mail - if you don’t specify, I’m not paying it. Furthermore, if a shop can charge $24.99 for it, then she can too. She’s probably selling her comps.

Tangent aside, shipping is part of the price. I have my cut off point. Shipping is taken into that cut off point.

I wouldn't be shocked to see a VMP variant tomorrow as well.

Shipping costs being what they are here, I always have a little bit of a (jealous? spiteful?) chuckle when I see complaints about $10 shipping. Anything under $15-20 feels like I'm getting away with something!
