Pre-Order Thread

One of my favorite local artists is finally pressing to wax. It may be better to save for Bandcamp day but it’s available for pre order, If you like the bluesy vocalist styles in modern Americana - folk, soul, R&B styled music - she’s got a great set of pipes and some good tunes behind it. She also got some great backing musicians for this album so I’m optimistic.

Wow, what a great voice. Watched a few videos and seems she's got a dynamite band as well.

Boomboom’s gettin Kinky 😉

It seems only Everybody’s a star is a BoomBoom. Is that one broken out from the box set? Muswell seems like a new 50th cut. Maybe BoomBoom cut it and didn’t master it though? Or KG had to change his identity to Tony Cousins to try to hide

“All audio has been produced by Ray Davies and mastered by Kinks expert Tony Cousins at Metropolis studios.”
Do you mean the mono box? It doesn't go further than the 1970 comp, which may have been when they stopped doing mono. Looks like he did do a reissue for it in 2016 that had a bonus disc so probably that without the 3rd LP.

Feels like this album has gained status since its release. It was a pretty wild turn after TIMTTMY but I think it has aged pretty well.

This Is My Truth got pretty badly beat by the Music press and the Manics hardcore at the time despite it selling well. It was kinda seen as the sell out album appealing to the Mondeo man. I think this was particularly evident in them dressing pretty normal middle aged man on your live rather than the way they always had previously. The Everlasting is also the worst Manics single, it’s whole sound and lyrical theme is just such an anathema to everything they stood for to begin with.

This album was sold at the time in Britain as the “return to their roots.” It’s big problem was kinda just too many disparate styles and ideas crammed in together, I always felt it had lots of good songs without ever being a good album. That’s why I really like the idea of this new 2LP, it really does, even just in paper, look a lot more coherent as 2 albums rather than the one big one.

I did see them live twice around then and they were brilliant, they had definitely rediscovered their fury there.

I actually liked it just fine when it first came out and was kind of surprised by all the negativity toward it. Then again, I thought Lifeblood was pretty great, too!

Lifeblood was kinda where they lost me for a couple of years. But the reaction to it was Send Away The Tigers which gave them the confidence to tackle the Richey folder and do Journal For Plague Lovers and those two are firmly in my top 5 Manics albums.

Wonder if there will be any good stateside options.

No original version of "So Why So Sad"? I love the sound of that song.

I remember buying it and Found That Soul when the two singles came out in the same day. I liked them both but probably preferred Found That Soul. Let Robeson sing is the star of this set, I always loved that song.

That was right at the height of my Manics obsession. I remember getting Masses Against The Classes begging to go to the Millennium concert but not being allowed. The joys of being 16 lol. Eventually saw them for the first time at the Manchester Apollo on the tour for this album.

Definitely prefer both those albums to Lifeblood, but there's not much they've done I don't like in some way. They did seem rejuvenated post-Send Away the Tigers, though.

And yes, "The Everlasting" is not good. I don't have a problem with This Is My Truth overall, but the first time I heard that, it sounded like Foreigner or something. Weird they took "Nobody Loved You" off the anniversary edition instead of that, and even weirder that they didn't make "Prologue to History" the leadoff track in place of it, instead of placing it between "Black Dog" and "SYMM" where it just sounds out of place.

The new Know Your Enemy seems to have been put together more thoughtfully.

I think a lot of it is that they went back to their original idea. It’s not something new or over thought. The Manics always seem a their best to me when their working off their gut and/or being reactive, when they over think things or try to be too purposive is when I feel they run into issues.

Also I hope that Futurology comes back into print on vinyl again soon, I adore that album, that’s the underrated black horse in their catalogue for me.

Not vinyl but I’d imagine there would be a few here interested in this.

The Manics have done a reimagining of Know Your Enemy for its 21st anniversary. Now as a double album, as originally intended, and remastered. Drops September.

Trying to order, says it can’t deliver to my address? What gives?

EDIT: I see this note….did any US peeps have luck ordering a signed variant?

May have? I ordered first thing this morning and that message wasn't on there.

On top of that.. wtf? I've ordered countless signed items from the UK in the past, including Manics releases, and it seems like an odd move to suddenly restrict them all of the sudden.
I’ve seen it more frequently lately, not sure why either.
