Pre-Order Thread

I think in terms of quality that’s waaaaaay out. Oasis had such a drop off after the first two for a variety of reasons. The Monkeys are an inherently more musically curious bunch and I think that’s kept them more fresh and engaging. Humbug is their only misstep for me.
Yeah, I was just generalizing for the closest comparison I could think of.

Humbug is in my top 3 AM albums.

It's funny because Alex Turner just gave an interview for NME that says it's more "back to earth" sounding. The audience recording of the new tack seems to side with Helders though.
"Back to earth" because it's a concept album about a Ford Cortina that gains sentience and narrates the stories of the people who have owned it across the decades while languishing in a field somewhere in Cornwall, slowly succumbing to the elements

Assuming this is the article…

I haven’t been lukewarm on the AM for over a decade now. Every albums since Favourite Worst Nightmare has piqued my interest but ultimately left me unmoved.

Yup, that's the one

I enjoyed Tranquility Base when it was released but it hasn't been something I feel the need to revisit. Also, on the Royal Albert Hall album when they're out side by side with their classics the songs seem like a bit of an energy drain
I tried so hard to enjoy TBH+C, but it's just bad. Lyrics, music, top to bottom ill conceived.

And yeah even the Royal Albert recording blunts the edge of their previous catalog with TBH+C aimless meandering. Really phoned it in.

I'm experiencing a weird sensation of having lived a lifetime of ignoring the existence of Arctic Monkeys entirely, reading this post that reinforced everything I thought I knew, and then coming across this description that suddenly makes me wonder if this band is actually interesting.
You gotta look at Arctic Monkeys through the lens of trends that inspired them, from the earliest days as third-wave indie sleaze to desert rock wannabes to coked out LA sex machines.

If TBH+C did anything it allowed them to buck the trend by trying on the moth-eaten polyester of decades past rather than the latest fashion. It was a bold move and a grave misstep.

Are they an original band? Nope. Are they a talented band? Absolutely. Were they a fun band? Yes, but not any longer.

In celebration of the album’s 10th anniversary, we're excited to release the first-ever vinyl pressing of Holidays Rule, a deliciously diverse collection of seasonal music featuring glittering contributions from across the musical spectrum. Originally released in 2012, the set boasts 17 recordings of timeless holiday classics from artists including pop phenoms fun., the legendary Paul McCartney, indie-pop luminaries The Shins, Americana favorites The Civil Wars, adored singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright (featuring Sharon Van Etten), playful popsters Fruit Bats, bluegrass revisionists Punch Brothers, soul icon Irma Thomas (with The Preservation Hall Jazz Band), cinematic rockers Calexico, eclectic troubadour Andrew Bird, Latin neo-traditionalists Y La Bamba, Texas twang-rock troupe Heartless Bastards, alterna-folk standard-bearer Holly Golightly, roots quintet Black Prairie (featuring Sallie Ford), choral revival collective AgesandAges, Fiery Furnaces alumna Eleanor Friedberger and Seattle Americana outfit The Head and the Heart.

Out September 30 release date, the album will be receiving a wide release in the form of a 2-LP gatefold set pressed on Translucent Red vinyl, as well as a very limited Clear with Red-and-Green Splatter variant, exclusive to the Craft Recordings store. Lacquers were cut by Dave Cooley at Elysian Mastering from the original hi-resolution sources mastered by Gavin Lurssen at Lurssen Mastering.

Man, I was ready pull the trigger on this and finally pick up a few other albums at the same time, but $20 domestic shipping? Even for a little DIY outfit that's steep.

Have we had this conversation here before? Now that I'm typing it out I feel like maybe we have.

Yes BJ charges a bunch for shipping. I was unaware it was $20. Last time I ordered from his store it was $12 or 14. Maybe he is sending everything priority now.

Edit: I am only getting $10 for the record when I try to order it.

The Shins getting billed above Paul McCartney

I haven't listened to anything by the Arctic Monkeys since Humbug in 2009. I really liked that album because it was a little more aggressive than their first two. "Pretty Visitors" goes HARD.

If that’s actually the album concept, ignore my above post. That is interesting. Like that Glass Animals album except not Glass Animals.
