Pre-Order Thread

Which is why they should have their own thread. 1 like every other club in that section, and not a half dozen like we currently have. It's just a really bad look imo when VMP has 6 threads (not to mention the VMP love fest in the hip hop thread) dedicated to it in a section where no other club has more than 1. That's why I argue, because we as a forum are still letting that shit company control us here.

I would honestly let them go if all we had was them popping up here like Newbury or other sub par record stores like it
Like it or not, the majority of us here right now come from VMP. And people still want to discuss their offerings. I think a little leeway right now in allowing those separate conversations is ok. But I do want to be sensitive to those who are uncomfortable with seeing VMP discussed everywhere so we are trying to encourage folks to keep those discussions in those threads. As more time passes, hopefully we can see which threads are thriving and which can be merged.

I mean ok, but it's a black eye on this forum afaic and I dont plan on getting off this soap box anytime soon. People could still discuss all things VMP in a single thread.

Also I think it's even a worse look that staff is telling people they cant post preorders in the preorder thread

I hear ya. I mean, I disagree about the black eye, but I understand where you’re coming from.

But do you really think it’s ok for VMP preorders to be in here? They have so many. It would clog up this pretty diverse thread.

Taking the opposite viewpoint here.

I thought we weren't trying to be anti-VMP as a forum policy?

For me, the separate threads keep conversations from getting muddied together. I don't care about R&HH so wading through all of those posts would get old quickly. Having dedicated threads for Anthology has been helpful as it's kept the controversies in that thread away from distracting the others.

This is how I feel. One thread wouldn't be enough for me. I have little interest in certain tracks and only really want to discuss the ones I am into. I also don't subscribe to Anthology so I don't need to read a ton of posts devoted to that.

I started to do this even when I was a member because 1) if it was from the label or bull moose it’d be on my doorstep on release day and not a month later and 2) almost always cheaper

Yep, I've been doing exactly this for quite a while now. Let VMP show you some good music (still what they do well), then search for it elsewhere at a cheaper (often significantly cheaper price). It makes it feel like everything you're buying is on sale!

I don't mind seeing VMP exclusives here, but I would def be a bit upset if they ended up cloging this thread, specially with discusions like "OMG, Storf said they're dropping an amazing exclusive this week. Make your bets people! Are we finally seeing Fiona :eek::eek:?"
That kind of discussion would def upset me, because that would be hijacking a thread I follow in order to be updated on new releases by all labels around the world.
Does this make any sense?

Maybe create a poll and let us decide how to handle the VMP releases? I see valid points on both sides, but feel that maybe what the majority decides should be the way to go.

Yes. They only do them once a week and yes they do multiple at a time but so does Newbury and we post them without clogging up the thread. They are preorders, so therefore they belong in this thread. Any push back against them is a good thing imo, buyers should be made aware of other variants or other places to find them cheaper and that will happen here way more than in a dedicated VMP thread.

We might need to make an announcement about this, but if possible please keep the VMP products/discussion in the VMP threads.

It’s a very controversial topic and talking about VMP everywhere kind of degrades the positivity we’ve built here. Some people just don’t want to see anything about VMP and we should honor that.
Sorry, I think I thought I was in the sclusies thread? Nope, I was just wrong to do it. Sorry!!

For me it’s all about activity. Those threads have hundreds of posts where even the most active threads for other clubs only have dozens.

But your point is made and heard.

That's just out of habit. VMP only puts out 3 tracks a month. That's 3 records. Then they'll do a couple exclusives each week. I have no idea why that warrants a TON of separate threads, or how discussion about one product would conflict with another if contained within a single thread. How many different releases are we discussing in this thread at the same time? It's never been a problem. Giving one company that focus is the only thing derailing anything in here. If we weren't discussing it now, the exclusive post, most likely, would have slid right past with little fanfare. Someone would post a release and people would buy it, or they wouldn't. They'd make a comment or two, possibly post another variant/option and keep things moving onto something else.

It's not a big deal to post a link in here. Another link for something else will just come up next and it would be treated as anything else. The multiple threads are just because people are trying to recreate what was gone, rather than moving on to what this place could be and, as long as we have a huge chunk of another section on this forum -- not just a random comment/post in a thread, but an entire section overrun with VMP specific threads -- that's going to be a lot worse. I don't feel uncomfortable coming into this thread to see the other pre-order options, but I definitely have felt overwhelmed going into the Vinyl Clubs section to see what other options are out there, only to be surrounded by nothing but threads dedicated to VMP. I'd honestly prefer those to be consolidated. It feels as if the Vinyl Clubs section is really just a miniature version of VMP that gets to live over there. And, while I've said little about it and just tried to ignore it, I believe that the focus is misplaced by suggesting that we regulate people on here from posting a link, fairly innocently, if that issue, where I feel that a more genuine problem lies and is more problematic to some of us, continues to thrive and be encouraged.

100% agree with all of this

Kinda. It’s a fine line I guess. I want to let conversations thrive and I thought folks didn’t want VMP to be everywhere. But if you guys think this thread can handle VMP preorders without devolving into a huge anti-VMP hatefest, derailing a very cool thread, then I think we can stop trying to control what’s happening in here. lol

As for the other threads, we’ll continue to discuss how to handle those conversations. Thanks for all your feedback. I do appreciate honest criticism.

You and @Believer101 go hard in that thread (which honestly is fine I'm glad you still like what they do) I just dont understand having a dedicated VMP RHH thread when yall just do it in the normal hip hop thread

I haven't searched around here much.....JUST realized there was a VMP club section! To be fair, The only VMP talk I've done is about the rap exlusive after yesterday's reddit post and today that Denzel is worth the price! Everything else has been disappointment with the Hi Five prices and such!

They don't have that many. This is clearly an issue that was discussed among the Administrators and you came to this conclusion, but I don't believe that it's accurate. The only thing clogging up this thread is this discussion telling people not to post links, when the people that would, apparently, be offended by them, aren't, and the thing that is more offensive and invasive to this forum, is somehow viewed as a necessity that needs to exist. By trying to push the pre-order links out of here, it's basically a message that people that don't frequent that section and don't want to will have to go in there and wade through all of the other garbage just to find out about a pre-order. I feel like that's far more insensitive. What if something like the FIona is finally announced and is a true exclusive? Some people in here would probably still want to know about it, but could miss out, because they don't want to go all in on the club. It doesn't keep things separated casually, it forces an all or nothing situation on members. It's more divisive than anything and it separates us into 2 groups.

This week, VMP put out a Denzel Curry album and that other blue note album. Apparently, people need an entire thread to discuss 2 color variants and a full week to discuss it, before something else is released. Seriously?

I went into that section last night and tonight, because it feels like a dark basement in my house that I'm afraid of, and I don't want people in there to feel like they are quarantined, either.

I personally think both these arguments are relative non-issues being turned into bigger deals than they need be. Folks wanna have multiple VMP threads, let em have em, just don't read em. Folks wanna post links to VMP pre orders here, let em post em and If you don't wanna buy em, skip past em. We're all grown ups here, we can deal just fine with VMP talk buzzing in the background and it feels like one of those things that becomes more a talking point for the sake of it to be honest if we try and treat them differently to any other retailer. Just my tuppence.

Also, doesn’t treating them special by NOT discussing them like we would with any other record store perpetuate the idea that VMP is evil/bad thus making it a bigger deal for a longer period. It’s of my opinion that we should just carry on without treating VMP special in either a positive or negative capacity. We should be able to discuss them wherever and all their threads should be combined under a single “club” thread.
