Pre-Order Thread

Taking the opposite viewpoint here.

I thought we weren't trying to be anti-VMP as a forum policy?

For me, the separate threads keep conversations from getting muddied together. I don't care about R&HH so wading through all of those posts would get old quickly. Having dedicated threads for Anthology has been helpful as it's kept the controversies in that thread away from distracting the others.

Do you care about every single pre-order that pops into this thread, regardless of genre? I really don't see the difference. How much conversation is necessary, when you're essentially discussing a different color wax on a record?

I personally think both these arguments are relative non-issues being turned into bigger deals than they need be. Folks wanna have multiple VMP threads, let em have em, just don't read em. Folks wanna post links to VMP pre orders here, let em post em and If you don't wanna buy em, skip past em. We're all grown ups here, we can deal just fine with VMP talk buzzing in the background and it feels like one of those things that becomes more a talking point for the sake of it to be honest if we try and treat them differently to any other retailer. Just my tuppence.

I would like to stop seeing the same preorder posts over and over though along with status updates about them as well. I get everyone’s excited but at least check a few threads first.

exactly, i haven't had to pull my wallet out for at least an hour. in this thread, that's unacceptable. gimme the pre-orders baby

Kinda. It’s a fine line I guess. I want to let conversations thrive and I thought folks didn’t want VMP to be everywhere. But if you guys think this thread can handle VMP preorders without devolving into a huge anti-VMP hatefest, derailing a very cool thread, then I think we can stop trying to control what’s happening in here. lol

As for the other threads, we’ll continue to discuss how to handle those conversations. Thanks for all your feedback. I do appreciate honest criticism.

Exactly, the only reason to discourage posting VMP stuff in here was out of sensitivity to people who don't like them, but seeing people either aren't bothered or would like to see them, then fine.

When this forum started there were two VMP threads, the reason there are now one for each track is because members wanted it. So I say live and let live. If they want the threads let them have them, if the pre-order thread can handle everything then that's fine as well.

Basically, as you were.

Also, doesn’t treating them special by NOT discussing them like we would with any other record store perpetuate the idea that VMP is evil/bad thus making it a bigger deal for a longer period. It’s of my opinion that we should just carry on without treating VMP special in either a positive or negative capacity. We should be able to discuss them wherever and all their threads should be combined under a single “club” thread.

Yep, is a very fine line lol. I think we can let this go on in an organic way, but if it the thread derails from its main purpose, then we should let those people know there are other threads devoted to VMP Hate and/or Love.

I think the thought process right now is that combining would make it too hard right now for those in those threads to sift through to the posts about the tracks they’re into.

Also, I think that forum can include threads about albums being offered by different clubs, not just an umbrella club name for all albums. Which would likely blow up that forum into something larger but we have album threads, etc., in the General section so why not. Why keep one thread for each club.

I didnt realize this debate was occurring until just now.

I dont even realize one was a VMP hate thread and other wasnt. I was just under the impression we all love music regardless of which company pimps that shit out.

But if this isnt the case and VMP is to be limited then make it obvious in the title and I will respect it.

All love guys ;) cuddles all round hahaha

First of all, thank you. I don't believe that anyone would be more irritated by seeing this devolve into a VMP-centric thread than either @Woob_woob or myself, but the discussion around it seems to be the only thing doing that, right now, so I appreciate how you've heard and taken into account what we're saying about this situation. As far as the multiple threads go, I understand why there might be need for an Anthology specific thread, because that was, essentially, marketed as a different club anyway and it can be difficult to focus on that when it's conflicting with everything else. As for a specific thread dedicated to a single track album a month? Not seeing it. It's one album a month. For one, we don't even know what it's going to be for an entire month and then, once we do, I don't see people needing to discuss that single record until the next one arrives. The guess threads and monthly track threads are basically notorious for not needing to exist, and devolving into totally bullshit hot dog/sandwich debates and discussions about other VMP related fiascos (Weyes Blood, Anthology, Nat Turner, etc) EVERY SINGLE TIME. That's what they were. They were clogged up threads by nature that never stuck to one subject or didn't bleed into each other anyway. We all know this. It's a false premise that any of these products are so vital that they need that much attention, but it's a safety blanket for people still. And that's fine, I guess, but... again, are we really going to discuss the color of a Denzel Curry record for the next week?

But... that's whatever (as the kids say). Personally, I'd like to see those same people let go of the edge of the pool and go discuss actual music in a related space like a jazz or hip hop thread that already exists. I'm just glad that we aren't going to be regulating or shaming anyone for posting a link in here. If the whole thing actually becomes a problem, I believe we will self regulate.

I agree with everything you say here, but I'm mainly replying because I'll have this song stuck in my head all day simply because of the last word you used

So like if someone really wanted a focused conversation about a TMR release or a Sounds Delicious release, do you think we should keep them from starting that thread? I think that’s my take from what you’ve said. Idk. I want to be flexible. Certain threads don’t take hold and die off on their own.

Kind of. Stop them? I don't know. Do I think they are necessary? Not really.

I don't believe that we need 30 different threads to discuss each and every Newberry variant. Meanwhile, TMR is a legitimate label which puts out new music, so I believe that the TMR Vault is a different beast and that, anything TMR Vault related should be able to be contained within a single thread, because you move forward from it quarter to quarter. I'm not a member of Sounds Delicious, but I'd imagine it's the same situation.

I just think that we should be honest about what the ROTM threads really were. They were clogged up fiascos mixed with everything and nothing. The argument that we need separate threads to maintain purity of discussion and avoid subjects bleeding over doesn't hold weight with me, based on the history and what has always defined them

I don't think you should stop them from creating a thread, but I also think the community would ask you to combine it into its individual club thread.

Someone earlier said take a vote, and I honestly think that's the best idea. If the majority want a million VMP threads then I wont make (as much of) a stink about it
