This album should have been credited under Elfman solo in my opinion, as it wasn't really what I perceived Oingo Boingo to be (even minus the Oingo), except possibly Dark In The Tunnel. I like Boingo when taken on its own merits, but it's very different in comparison to the ska-based, rocking, horn laden pre Boi-Ngo phase of the catalog. At this point, Elfman was clearly done with that initial phase and deep into soundtrack work, so the songs were more serious, darker, more Beatle-esque.
In other words, I always felt 'Boingo' should have been labeled as Danny Elfman 'So-Lo' and 'So-Lo ' listed as an album called Boingo.
I have loved this band for too long, I suspect.

Agreed. There's definitely more maturity on this one than on any other Boingo album. I remember being struck by the long form of Insanity and especially Change, which while it sounded nothing like the band I grew up with, was a fantastic step forward.

there is also a 5cd set with a lot more tracks

Honestly I'll probably pick up either the CD set or the digital version. My real interest in Genesis leaves like an album or two after Peter Gabriel -- basically when Phil stopped doing his Peter Gabriel impression and everyone started wearing pastel jackets, I'm out. It's a shame they never did the giant "everyone in the band" reunion type thing like Yes did. PG and PC have different voices and I think it'd be neat to hear them contribute to each others' material -- imagine Gabriel singing 'Land of Confusion'. And I think Ray would've gotten a better shake if more people had just heard him.

A couple very long overdue represses on the Metric side

I still have a soft spot for them so i have not decided yet. There are a couple of Highlights from the phil rea there ( especially Mama, Home by the sea, and the Duke tracks). I think Ray would have been better received if the sole Studio album he was on was not completly terrible. He sings a Song on one of the Steve hackett live albums and hes pretty good on that

28 pounds for the record, 18 pounds for the shipping. 44 pounds for 10 song record. it's a pretty record, but hard, hard pass.
