It’s a mixture of a lot of things. I really am bound by a budget moving forward… so I need to be more thoughtful of what I spend my ducks on. I also have four cubes of stuff I haven’t listened to. I have at least 50 7 inch records I haven’t even cleaned. The Kelly Finnigan album from last year, that I love, I got a fancy version, cool. I needed another mat like I needed a hole in my head. I didn’t need another 45 adaptor. I definitely don’t need a grinder. I don’t need a signed photo. The seven is with that 50 or so uncleaned. I’m constantly trying to play through what I haven’t listened to let or haven’t given thoughtful consideration to and not listening to what I want to. I’m reorganizing my CDs so they take up less room and I can find what I want when I want. So I’m looking at the thousands of these things that I don’t listen to. When I do have the chance to a-b something (usually because of the generator thread… ) I find that the vinyl usually beats the cd and the cd surprisingly often beats Qobuz - and I’m using the same dac so it’s the information not the output. It’s made me question what the fuck I’m doing. I have the first two Noble record releases and will probably keep getting them and I just get the black because I have and will have enough crazy looking vinyl I don’t look at across the room in my chair. Between never listening to stuff because of the back log and headphones, almost everything sounds like I’m listening to it for the first time. Hell it’s been less than a month since I figured out that my amp has a fucking mono switch…
I also spent most of my gift cards and Christmas money filling holes in discography runs. So I have very few projects left.
So yeah, getting every new release is not a big concern right now and I don’t care what version I have any more as long as it sounds good.
