@Jango your picture is frightening, mesmerizing and hilarious. Is that Mr. Bean as an Avatar character? So true. The rest of the album was a let down for me after an opener like that.

This comment on album openers reminded me of a fun list I read/listened to a few weeks ago. It's a bit more specific, as it pertains to the best opening tracks on debut albums. It's fairly eclectic but obviously leans towards more popular artists:
The 40 Best Debut Album Openers of All Time
Paste Magazine is your source for the best music, movies, TV, comedy, videogames, books, comics, craft beer, politics and more. Discover your favorite albums and films.www.pastemagazine.com
Silver Jews' Random Rules belongs on that list for the opening line alone.
Agreed, but it doesn't fit the criteria, because this is only considering opening tracks on artists' debut albums, which i think is Starlite Walker for them.
Cool list. I have always thought Caring is Creepy is a fantastic opener.
Other favorites for me:
The Doors - S/T - Break on Through (which also obviously goes with the debut albums theme)
Tom Waits - Heart of Saturday Night - New Coat of Paint
Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen - One Angry Dwarf
Modest Mouse - Moon and Antarctica - 3rd Planet

Ah, yes, that would be a good way to go, to sell each piece individually (or in the case of the 7"s in a pair) and allow for building any of the combinations a buyer might want. They could offer 7"s alone, just like the ones they already reissued of their earlier material.
The list is for debut album openers.
But yah! THIRD PLANET!
They did one back in 2009 and again in 2015. They were limited though, especially the 2015 version. Is this the first repress? This is one of the first albums I bought when I really started getting into vinyl. So good.
lol my friend sent this to me and i ordered it so fastThey did one back in 2009 and again in 2015. They were limited though, especially the 2015 version.
I agree, except for Conventional Wisdom, which rocks. That song is more Dinosaur Jr. than Dinosaur Jr.So true. The rest of the album was a let down for me after an opener like that.
There’s an indie orange marble version coming, as well as a translucent red Bandbox bundle thing too.
The Village Green box set they did is pretty awesome, although I agree--I rarely play all the extras that came with it. I prefer Lola vs too. I have an OG so not sure if I'll buy this one or not yet!Sorry - to clarify I was referring to a single LP reissue for $22.
It feels like recent legacy artist reissues (Petty, McCartney, Stones, Reed, Replacements) have not been offering a "just the album" version, and if so one priced below $25
I rarely find the need to spin vinyl of the unpolished outtakes, remixes, and live cuts ...and definitely don't need the fan club comb.
