Frankly, I think that picture has roots in some racist ideologies that I'm extremely uncomfortable with, and I did not enjoy seeing it show up there at all.

I have nothing but love and fond memories of the VMP forum. Shame how it ended, but if it hadn't then N&G wouldn't exist and I think this place will be better, for a start every thread won't be about shipping grievances!

I also wish all the staff well. I had the pleasure of working with Cam, Storf, Greens and Pauly in trying to build the community. Sure they drifted away and lost interest at the end, but I look at it like this.... this place, this community is the fruition of that work. We exist in no small way because of them. No hard feelings, just positive vibes. I'm also really fucking stoked how we all just carried on talking about the music and didn't look back with bitterness. It's been lovely.

Couldn't agree more. Sometimes getting dumped or fired can be the best thing that happens to you, even when it sucks in the moment.

fwiw, I don't think some of the connotations of that pic fully translate across the Atlantic. It's loaded with historical tropes about African American sexuality. There's a reason this meme features him and not known philanderer Bill Clinton, and it's not because Obama is inherently funnier.

Apologies. As the forum was going down I seen this meme and I found it humorous only in the context of everybody was doing and saying what they wanted at that moment. I wasnt celebrating or laughing at any stereotypes, racial gestures and or slurs etc... just the fact someone photoshopped Obama, it could of been Timmy Mallet photoshopped on that and my humour would have been activated the same way. If it was intended as a racist piece of propaganda then shame on that person who i dont remember actually posted it but I for one didnt think that it was posted for any other reason than to generate laughs at vmps expense

Okay okay, yes, meme culture didn't exist back then, and blah blah blah, but if we accept that there IS a pre-existing culture of racist Obama memes, and there is, then even if this one's on the fence, that's enough for me.

Or maybe someone just found it fappable? I mean Obama did give Chris Matthews tingle all the way up his leg after all.

Best to not overthink these things.
