R.I.P. VMP Forum

I've always been a more casual participator in the VMP forums, so I've spent the last few days trying to load the forum and not being able to, and wondering what's been going on as I was thoroughly out of the loop. I just wanted to see the next random year for the awesome 'album of the year' thread we'd been working on for a while. So bummed all that is gone now. I never understand why companies pull shit like this. After reading this thread and some other stuff, I'm thoroughly upset at VMP at the whole situation and won't be giving them any more of my money..

I'm glad someone made this forum and hope we can replace what was lost. Just the good parts, that is. :)

It’s already the best best parts.

How did you find us?

How did you get there? The old link doesn't redirect you.

I googled VMP forum and it was the second link. I was actually seeing if that other guys Forum had died a quick death but couldnt recall what name he used. Found something a modicum more interesting. Not many people will find that page !!

The other place (I won't link it here) has zero activity since the end of the week. There were a few people posing who I knew from he other place, but they seemed to have made their way here. It's basically a ghost town.

I’m so glad you made it and I feel awful for forgetting to reach out. I tried to pm as many folks as I could think of that hadn’t been on since before the announcement. It was mayhem. But now you’re here! Yay!

Probably hopeless but i wonder if we reached out to say Storf on twitter and asked them to provide a better forward link to us if people gogle “vmp forum”?
Which is what i always did, never shortcutted etc
Maybe for a month ? I dont mind asking.

Google might take a while to link us in that search result.

I see stevehoffman is linked.. maybe someone should go onto those linked articles and make sure this place is linked on it.

VMPs links will die soon tho

Some fun (?) VMP subreddit stats relating to the announcement of the VMP forum closing:

- The amount of pageviews the subreddit got on Tuesday was anywhere from 10 to 15 times the amount of pageviews it got on any of the 10 preceding days

- In the two days before the announcement, the subreddit gained 10 subscribers. In the time between the announcement of the closing and the actual closing of the forum, the subreddit gained 97 subscribers

- The usual monthly "peak" of subreddit pageviews is the day of the ROTM announcements, and it's a pretty significant peak. The pageviews on Tuesday eclipsed every single previous ROTM announcement day

I'm gonna sticky a thread with the link to the new forum on the subreddit and keep it up for an indefinite amount of time. It looks like a few former forum members have already found their way here via the sub so at least in that regard the increase in traffic isn't all bad haha

We’d already arranged with them to have the link up for like a week. I’m not sure what happened there with the date but we sent a message about it so it’s on them and I don’t really care at this point. The shortness of their linking to us is because it was decided it would be confusing to have VMP keep directing people to us. We’re not their unofficial forum and that’s what it would look like if they kept promoting us.

I’m happy right now with having familiar members and after we get settled in, figure out our logo and drop the new look of the site, the admins will be discussing next steps on how to grow the forum. We’ve seen what happens when growth happens too fast, I want to make sure we’re ready.
