Rank The Albums!

Illogical or unreasonable.

Well then its not irrational.
My "hatred" as you put it, is reasonable, unless you contend that everyone MUST, without reservation or qualification, like and/or love that song, that it is impossible to dislike.

And there is a logic to it - not only do they play it every single fucking time I see them, but there is something about the opening guitar licks and the sleepy way Tweedy starts the song that makes want to stick an ice pick in my ears.
And the guitar behind the lyrics in the stanzas makes me nuts.
The guitar solo, however, is an excellent display of musicianship.

It may be "incomprehensible" to some - but "irrational" is a bit strong, no?
;)

Hey man it's OK, taste is subjective and we don't all have to like the same things and after all, @Viking Dan has the right to be wrong.

Which, holy shit yeah he is

One day - you'll listen to Evil Urges, its greatness will hit you over the head like a ton of bricks, everything will fall into place and you wont be able to hear Impossible Germany without a shudder of revulsion.

Oh I completely agree. I find it humorous. I dislike lots of songs that I would be in the minority by disliking. The Irrational portion isn’t that @Viking Dan hates a Wilco song, it’s that he is so personally offended by others enjoyment of said song and has offered up his unsolicited opinion enough that his internet pals associate that hatred with him. To dislike something is completely normal to dislike something enough that he’ll offer up his distain unsolicited in almost every occasion that the album it appears on is discussed is irrational (and hilarious).

Never change @Viking Dan

angel olsen: all mirrors > big time > whole new mess > burn your fire for no witness > my woman > half way home

Angel Olsen
  1. MY WOMAN
  2. Burn Your Fire For No Witness
  3. (Strange Cacti)
  4. Big Time
  5. Half Way Home
  6. All Mirrors
  7. Phases
  8. Whole New Mess
I don't really consider Whole New Mess a proper album. I'd say Phases is more of one since it's a compilation of new songs rather than re-recorded songs already off of All Mirrors.

EDIT: Apparently Wikipedia says it's a proper album lol.

Tough to rank, but Yumi Zouma:

1. Willowbank
2. Present Tense
3. Yoncalla
4. Truth or Consequences

EPs

1. EP II
2. EP
3. EP III

Floating in a netherverse of goodness:

1. What's the Story Morning Glory?
I could nitpick but they're all good.

EPIII IMO is their pound for pound best thing they've done. If that was a full length it would be their best.

Yep. I will say a lot of my ranking is based on my entry points with them (starting at EP II), and thus my memory reaches for more often.

EP II’s Alena is one of my top songs. I checked out a bit during the ToC and EP III releases but this new one is great.

Yeah EPII is really solid. I love "Catastrophe" and "Song for Zoe & Gwen"

I got much more into them with Truth or Consequences so that one is one of my favorites. It was my AOTY in 2020, Apparently according to last.fm I had listened to Willowbank back in 2017 a few times but I don't recall doing that and obviously must not have liked it at the time. I think they keep getting better and better. Their vocals have gotten much more prominent and distinct whereas Yoncalla is more dance-y/downbeat and vibey. It's really a shame that the Oasis cover album was recorded around Yoncalla/Willowbank because if they did it today it'd be much better.

Their early stuff reminds me more of the downtempo-ness of Men I Trust, which is why I think I prefer it.

With the new Porcupine Tree album dropping a week from tomorrow (and them being one of my favorite bands of all time), it seemed appropriate to give their 10 studio albums a proper ranking. I'll have to update this once I figure out where their new album fits in.

10. On The Sunday Life (1992)
9. The Sky Moves Sideways (1995)
8. Up The Dowstair (1993)
7. The Incident (2009)
6. Signify (1996)
5. Stupid Dream (1999)
4. Lightbulb Sun (2000)
3. Fear Of A Blank Planet (2007)
2. Deadwing (2005)
1. In Absentia (2002)

Time to get controversial:

Erykah Badu

1. Baduizm
2. Worldwide Underground
3. New Amerykah: Pt 1
4. New Amerykah: Pt 2
5. But You Caint Use My Phone
6. Mama's Gun

I know Mama's Gun is usually regarded as her best but I always thought it was overall a bit boring (except a few songs) and almost never listen to the album as a whole.
Worldwide Underground is usually pretty low on other lists but I love it. But You Caint Use My Phone is technically a mixtape but that's where I would put it.
