Record cleaning - what's your method?

It might also be worth checking out the Project VC-S2.

A few of us Brits bought them a few years ago when an eBay seller had a really good discount on them and I have to say that it's been one of my best record-gear related purchases. Really simple to use, very sturdy, and the results are fantastic. The only change I have made is to buy a 50p squeeze bottle with a spout (like a cafe/diner sauce bottle) to apply the liquid in a more controlled way.

I’d be curious how this compares to an ultrasonic. I have a VPI vacuum record cleaner and it worked well, but the Humminguru is better IMO for a few reasons. It’s more automated (fill the tank, put record in, press a button and come back in 10 min or so). And I’ve actually heard improved dynamics on some records afterwards. Can’t say I ever experienced that with the VPI. For really filthy records, I still use the VPI first but I really prefer the HG over it. I think it was cheaper than the VPI too

What he said - really pleased with mine

I can't compare I'm afraid but I find the VC-S2 really easy to use, and fast!

In terms of results, it's pretty fantastic. I have had quiet records with a ton of pops and surface noise that completely disappeared with a clean. I never had a spin clean but the idea of the amount of time it takes would completely put me off.

Yea--the vacuum cleaners are good for getting rid of surface noise/pops and clicks. The ultrasonics have actually improved dynamics on some records for me though and that's where it is an improvement over the vacuum cleaner! Either one is worth an investment though for sure!

Kirmuss is manual dry though (hate this, adds static, PITA), and I'm concerned by the... level of... uh... eccentricity with that company...
Couldn't remember if it was manual dry or not. I wouldn't want that either. It is significantly cheaper than the Degritter though.

You can do what Mikefromtheingroovephoenixarizona does and just charge people $9 to clean a record! it'll pay for itself in no time.

What's he general consensus on the best ultrasonic device these days? Degritter? Or Audio Desk Pro?
I’ve owned the Audio Desk Pro for four years now and enjoy using it every time. The results are consistent and superb. Had the VPI 17f for twenty years and it was bulletproof but the Audio Desk cleans rings around it. Haven’t directly compared to any other ultrasonic cleaners.

I’m not so sure he’s internet famous. Just under 38k subs on YT. His view numbers aren’t that big.
It’s definitely his money laundering/drug selling that’s affording him to buy those huge collections.
for a record store owner who makes 40 minute long videos about restocks, nearly 40k subscribers isn't too shabby. i'd say he's very well-known for the record community at this point.

am i missing something with you referring to him being a money launderer a few times? you can make some decent money being an online and physical store retailer for records right now...

I’m joking about that stuff, but he’s been buying large collections for a while now. Tack on his system and it’s always made me wonder. I mean most stores make their biggest profits from used not new. Unless that margin has changed.
