Record Store Day 2023

So I was shooting the shit with the owner of my local and he’s pretty confident that the Taylor Swift army is gonna be out in full force for RSD this year. He said he’s had more call about the Swift record than any RSD release ever. They are getting over 400 copies but he expects the line to be extra fat this year. Hopefully none of them bring their Dads as I assume I would a have a bit more overlap on my want list with them.

Also, the Macho Man album is gonna be a hard get this year. He ordered 20 and is only getting one or 2.
I'm fully expecting there will be a ton of swifties at my store. With my health issues, it's really unreasonable to think I can get in line like I usually do at 5am for a 10am store opening. My feeling is that even getting there at 5am would prob put me at number 30 rather than the usual 10-15 because of the swifties.

There isn't a lot that I want, I may just have to resign myself to the fact that I might have to buy resale.

Thankfully there are lots of nice people around here that might be able to help ya out if need be.

My store people regularly camp out overnight already. I used to show around 3 AM and would be one of the first few in line now I show up at that time and there is a line down to the corner with 20+ people in front of me. I think there will be double that this year. Who knows. I enjoy buying records but I also enjoy shooting the breeze with fellow collectors if I gotta wait a little longer I am okay with it.

My store is in Princeton, NJ. When Vintage Vinyl (another NJ store) closed (I guess it's a couple years now) we got at least half of the people who would normally go there. I remember showing up at 5am the first RSD after it closed and was like WTAF? Why are the "regulars" not at the front of the line??? I think I was maybe 13-14 in line that time, and one of the usual suspects was right in front of me - we see eachother twice a year (more during covid) and we were both surprised that the line was so long because VV shut down.

T Swift just makes it even worse. I wish they'd have a TSwift only line and an all else RSD line!

The store I’m going to hands out numbers at 6:30 am…. That means I need to be there earlier than normal to be sure no one else is after the two big things I’m after. I doubt there’d be overlap, but what about their parent too yah know.

I’m all for getting them out for the Taylor Swift, but I’m now extra nervous

Keep in mind that many Swifties probably were burned trying to get tickets to her ongoing tour, so they aren't about to get burned again! I applaud their gusto.

Also, last year, when she was RSD ambassador they released an ultra limited 7” that was really hard to come by. Most Swifties probably don’t realize that here are 75k copies of this being released in the US so theoretically there should be plenty to go around (at least for the weekend) though it is genuinely RSD exclusive live release so it’s not just colored wax so I am sure the FOMO is real.

I'm a 53 year old Swifty very much looking forward to this release! Not going to brave the crowds on RSD but am confident (🤞🏻) I can get it online after.

Word. Yeah, I am sure there is some overlap between the vinyl collecting community and Swift fans but those that only collect Swift albums are gonna be what inflates the numbers this year.

Gone are the days when you could walk into a store on RSD at like 10am and grab a T. Swift album like I did for Red. My only regret is not also grabbing the TSD release of 1989 at the same time!

Same. I passed initially and got them waaay (like a year) later online. Those were hanging around for a while then the Scooter Braun situation happened (and she re-blew up post covid).

Just not feeling RSD this year, but I think that is more with what is going on in my life. There are a couple of things that either super low numbers so my chances of getting are near 0, or will be available online later that day.

I'm ambivalent too this year. Didn't see much to my liking. Though I'd always pick-up a Jazz Dispensary compilation if I come across it (unfortunately missed the last few, but they're always top notch). They remind me a lot of the old Pulp Fusion series I loved back during the late 90's and early 2000's.

Anybody know what the go-to audiophile-ish records are expected to be this year (like KPG cuts, AAA pressings, etc)?
