Record Store Day 2025

Yeah. Fucking hip-hop has a hard on for overcharging and keeping releases limited in recent years. See the fact that all of Billy Woods albums can only be purchased on tour (for $50) or that JPEG's albums dip in and out of print and are priced at like 40$. It's why that part of my collection has stalled.

But Cunninlynguists probably need the $ and that album was a STAPLE of my college years. I actually started buying wax after seeing APOS and Strange Journey volume III at their merch table during a 2014 tour. Bought them on the spot (for $25) and they remain among the most valuable records in my collection because they've never (to my knowledge) been repressed.

So we will see what happens. I just found a shop out here that is going to have it-- but they specialize in hip-hop so I bet it's one of the few places where that album is gonna be in high demand.
Billy Woods stuff has gotten more easily accessible. Hiding Places is up here woods + segal - Hiding Places [VINYL RE-ISSUE]
And his new one: billy woods - GOLLIWOG [2xLP VINYL]

I got that APOS back in 2014 as well, love that album.

I follow Kno on social media and he's adamant that they only do pressings if it's gonna benefit the small guy. Like they just released their EP through a small coffee shop in NC (I think), so he's a good dude obviously that isn't trying to sell out anytime soon.

Thank you for that link to Billy. Birthday is coming up and I will be ordering. I was so annoyed with the $50 asking price at his show.

I'm finally about to break down and buy Cornballs. He has been charging $40-45 for the re-issue (OG went for $20 in 2019 but I was on a hiatus from collecting). Unfortunately, to do so, I have to go through Amazon. Because none of my local shops have the option to order it for some reason.

I believe one of my locals has a sealed copy sub $40. I can check tonight for you if you'd like.

Let me know?

I was in LA for work, swung by Amoeba and they were charging like 43? And they are usually very fair in their pricing. Amazon currently has it on "sale" for $37. Based off some Discogs digging, I think he re-issued it as a 2LP for $30 last year, it sold out quick and they realized they could bump the price. So now it's $40 for a single LP.

Unfortunately, it's one of my favorite rap albums of all-time so I think I'm just gonna suck it up.

Billy Woods literally just dropped a preorder for his new 2xLP this morning. He's always released his stuff online.

Feel like that's a recent change. Because at the show he straight up said "yes the album is 50$ but it can only be purchased here and I figure out pressing them so all of the proceeds go to me".

That was 3 years ago though.

It's not a recent change at all. I've been buying all of his albums off Backwoodz for years. It's his label, so he gets the proceeds anyway. If you tried to buy one of the couple albums like the Armand Hammer WHT LBL which they did a small run of and only had at a handful of shows that's completely different, but I have a decent collection of Billy Woods and Armand Hammer releases and they weren't purchased at shows.

The hip hop thread would tell you the same thing.

WHT LBL did come out 3 years ago. If that's what you're referring to, you should have bought it
