RSD 2020

I forgot to add earlier that my store owner got some emails indicating that we will know Black Friday details in October... here we go with a new list I guess? I only want the MCR and unless it's a repress of my white whale I already spent WAY too much.

I want to get RSD release of Bill Evans’ Some Other Times, but it’s getting shit reviews on Discogs. Pressed at RTI and people’s copies are noisy.....

I don’t know if I want to risk it, especially as it’s an expensive RSD release. I love Bill Evans though!

I ordered a copy, in my experience usually RTI are very good. A lot of the stores I was looking at sold out very quickly, the last few RSD Bill Evans, I’ve been able to pick for the week after RSD, they are big runs , 6000 pressed.. I wonder if there has been a lot of flippers buying up this title, I’m hoping the comments are trying to keep the Discogs price down.

Has anyone got a copy with problems?

A world where I can’t rely on Kevin Grey and RTI, Is truly a crazy world 😬

Have you seen what the Hot Rats is going for? It's up to about £60 yet ive found at least 4 shops this morning that still have it in stock at around the regular price. If only people would ahve a proper look before they pay some arsehole a mental price

Kevin Gray and RTI, Is truly a crazy world 😬
I know right! Those two names are very reputable, especially Kevin Gray! I just finished spinning Camille Yarbrough’s The Iron Pot Cooker which sounded amazing! It was mastered and the lacquers were cut by Kevin Gray but it was pressed at Memphis Record Pressing (MRP). It was a bit of a gamble, but the record was very quiet, flat and didn’t have any pops! It was a dynamic, incredible sounding pressing - highly recommend picking that one up @Mather ! It seems to be one of those AAA Craft Recordings Kevin Gray reissues!

My local was selling the Bill Evans for AUD$85 which is a very good price, considering it’s a RSD release of a 2LP, RTI pressing ! I was so close to buying it but then thought, “what if its a noisy pressing, the music won’t be loud enough with instrumentation and vocals to cover it”! Gonna wait on other people to report if they got good sounding quality copies, especially @Selaws, before pulling the trigger on a copy!

I would love to own this because I listened to the music briefly on Spotify and really enjoyed it and I love my MOFI One-Step pressing of Portrait in Jazz and AP pressing of Bill Evans Love At The Montreux Jazz Festival! Would be great to pick up some more Audiophile Bill Evans!

I don't know, man. This is a great deal on the ODB

I ordered that Yarbrough this morning. I didn't go out in the physical world to deal with any of this business

I bought RTJ 4 (4 LP) and Mofi Cars ST and Doves Universal Want and Pallas pressed Bellman mastered Red Vinyl Tom Petty "Damn The Torpedoes" today.... I'm tapped out. But thank you, I'll check it out.

My local that was selling all the RSD releases, where I picked up Pilot Talk, Camille Yarbrough and Fleetwood Mac also had Bill Evans and I purchased them today! Yesterday on their Facebook page, they said no a single person was in line and there was no one there at 8am yesterday! 😂😂😂

Because of lockdown/COVID-19 restrictions in Melbourne, Australia, most people are staying home. So it was a very quick, hassle free RSD day for me! Same as last month! I went at 9:30am on Saturday (August RSD) and got everything I wanted (Bone-Thugs N Harmony, Al Green, Billie Eilish, Tyler The Crestor and Magnum)! 😇🙌

Dang! You went all out! Hope your copy of RTJ4 is flat because both my discs were very warped (probably due to shipping). You love your MoFi titles! I’m 100% getting the 2LP 45RPM MoFi T, Rex ‘Electric Warrior’ soon! It’s one of those very few rock MoFi titles I want! I can imagine it sounding incredible too!

Not familiar with Cars so I’ll have to check them out!

The Camille Yarbrough is superb! It’s so poetic and Camille says every word with a sense of purpose and urgency, yet with a lot of sexual tension/energy too! She’s so expressive and the funk on the record is amazing! I love ‘Take Yo Praise’ so much, the song Fatboy Slim sampled on his hit single “Praise You”! I can’t recommend that Camille Yarbrough release enough! Such a vibe! Like you’re gonna really enjoy drinking a glass of whiskey to that record! 😂

I was just too tired, plus, I wanted to see what I could pull off online. I got that Conway this morning and, after that, I wasn't stressing too hard on much. I knew the Yarbrough would be one that probably didn't get picked up by most and would be easier to grab below retail within a week, but I wanted it and liked supporting it. With the way I scour shit online though... almost worse than going into a shop. I wound up finding and buying stuff that had nothing to do with RSD at all. The crazy thing is that I even found the Galaxie 500 drop from last month, when I wasn't even trying.

To top it off, I wound up with a copy of Mos Def's the Ecstatic

Oh no, both of my first two discs of RTJ4 are warped to high hell. Disc two has an absolutely bizarre warp that undulates across the whole side. It's very strange. I actually doubt my flattener will be able to fix it. But we'll see. And the Pallas Petty Side A is pressed so off centre that I can hear the tone change as the stylus rocks back and forth. It literally sounds like his guitar is out of key. But hey... no shitty crackly distortion on any of them unlike all my copies of Spiritualized!

Mmmmm I get where you’re coming from! I’m obsessed with the Camille Yarbrough! It’s definitely my favourite RSD release so far! I prefer it even more than the Billie Eilish live at Third Man, Robyn, Al Green’s Greens is Blues, Ron Carter and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Charli XCX! That’s how good the Camille Yarbrough release is! It’s just such a gem and the pressing sounds phenomenal!!! ♥️

You’re in for a real, moody, urgently woke, deliciously poetic, homemade, sensual agitated, funky listen! The Iron Pot Cooker is just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Well worth the AUD$50 I spent! 💎🐒

So frustrating that VMP pressing of Spiritualized has that crackling distortion! So annoying! Hope your 3rd copy is good, but it’s hard to be optimistic when you get two copies with sound issues...

Can you bare to listen to the pressing or is the distortion too much for you?

Also Nathan, The Cars self titled first album is one of the best DEBUT rock/early new wave albums ever (in my opinion). I'm willing to bet it might not really be your thing in general. But A LOT of modern music came out of the sounds that they put out on that album. I'm not sure how you are with the Talking Heads: 77 but same era, similar sound, fantastic album. WAY WAY before your time but I think you'd at least appreciate the influence on a lot of current music, even if you didn't necessarily love the album front to back. Give it a listen.

I Frankensteined a copy together from my first two copies so at this point I've got one bad song, but the rest are pretty good save for some pops here and there. But I can tell those aren't going away from what I've read of other people's copies. So hopefully if I can get a clean disc one I'll be good. But I'm not keeping my hopes up.

So frustrating that I spent years asking for them to press Ladies and Gentleman and Gabor Szabo's Dreams and they wait to do it once I can't rationalize fucking with them anymore, even to get those. I got the Spiritualized, because they sent me a fucked up album and would only offer me credit, which they promised to apply to a membership, so I figured I could get that. Then they didn't apply it and I had to hound them for a refund. Good thing that Szabo still has other pressings floating around. If they ever did Stakes Is High, I'll probably have a melt down.

You know that I want hem to burn, right?

But, back on track......

.....

Here's a link to an increasingly "scarce" RSD title some of you might be looking for

Just like with the Pearl Jam unplugged from a little while back, and all Seattle-centric releases like this, one of my locals pretty much gets all of them
